Position Summary Information

General Information
Facilities Management is accepting applications for an Emergency Lighting Technician Assistant responsible for the assisting in the maintenance of emergency lighting systems and emergency power systems throughout the campus. Shift hours will be 6:30 AM-3:00 PM Monday through Friday.

Duties and Responsibilities
This Position is responsible for assisting the emergency lighting technician with the maintenance of emergency lighting systems and emergency power systems throughout the campus. Employee assists the emergency lighting technician to perform preventative maintenance on emergency lighting systems, emergency power systems and other support systems to include automatic transfer switches and monitoring system.
  • Perform monthly Emergency Lighting checks per NFPA code
  • Assist in troubleshooting and performing moderate repairs. Assist in troubleshooting and performing moderate repairs. Upgrade failed or obsolete lighting with LED
  • Provide depth of service to the Emergency Power Shop through extended maintenance and repair coverage
  • Generate, collect, and maintain accurate records on emergency lighting systems (both battery and emergency circuit powered)
  • The employee in this position will be considered designated, meaning the work performed is essential to university operations and the employee will be required to work during periods of authorized closings.
  • This position requires rotating on-call responsibilities.


Qualifications
Required
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to learn new equipment and systems as they are added
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office
  • A valid drivers license is required for this position. Must be 19 years of age and have held a valid drivers license for a minimum of 24 months


Preferred
  • Previous experience with electrical or mechanical systems

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
