Equitable is looking for a knowledgeable and innovative people leader to join us in our Charlotte location and build out our Filing team. The Filing function within our Employee Benefits business is paramount to both ensuring the successful rollout of new and enhanced products, as well as ensuring that current products remain in compliance with various state regulations.

This position will lead and manage a team of 6 individuals and oversee the overall state insurance filing activities, including the drafting of insurance forms, the preparation of insurance form filing submissions to state insurance departments, and to ensure state insurance examiners’ approval of the submitted form filings prior to product launch, plus the ongoing regulatory compliance of the approved forms. Detailed key accountabilities are specified below:



State Filings

  • Servers as a subject matter expert and internal consultant related to Employee Benefits rate and form filings.
  • Oversees the team’s drafting of rate and form filings related to Group Life, Disability, Dental, Supplemental health and all other riders and endorsements.
  • Works closely with key stakeholders (Product Management, Legal Division, Actuarial) to develop filings. Solicits feedback from other stakeholders within the organization (Executives, Underwriting, Distribution).
  • Ensures that the Filing team prepares and files final submissions in SERFF or other applicable systems and receives appropriate internal signoff.
  • Serves as a liaison between state insurance departments and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensures that the Filing team gains maximum number of filing submission approvals prior to product/pricing launch (this includes ensuring that team members expeditiously resolve state insurance examiners’ objections prior to deadlines).
  • Manages and executes a calendar of annual state filings and ensures filings are submitted on or before the specified due dates established by the state insurance departments.
  • Contributes to annual planning of major product and pricing initiatives.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Some travel required to industry meetings to keep abreast of life insurance topics, such meetings include the Association of Insurance Compliance Professionals or other Employee Benefit compliance associations.
  • Maintains strong relationships with Equitable’s internal Legal department and other internal compliance functions.
  • Establishes and maintains strong business relationships with state insurance examiners.
  • Monitors and tracks proposed or new state insurance legislation and regulations related to Employee Benefits products.
Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience leadership experience
  • 5+ years experience managing rate and State form filings for Employee Benefits (Group Life, Disability, Dental, Supplemental health, etc.)
  • Will travel attending industry meetings to keep abreast of life insurance topics, such meetings include: the Association of Insurance Compliance Professionals or other Employee Benefit compliance associations.

The base salary range for this position is $84,000 - $122,000. Actual base salaries vary based on skills, experience, and geographical location. In addition to base pay, Equitable provides compensation to reward performance with base salary increases, spot bonuses, and short-term incentive compensation opportunities. Eligibility for these programs depends on level and functional area of responsibility.
