Functioning within the Health System’s mission, vision, values, policies and procedures, the Endoscopy Technician is part of the medical team that uses endoscopes to diagnose or treat gastrointestinal problems. The technician interacts with patients, prepares rooms and equipment, provides support, and assists the physician and registered nurse while the procedure is underway. In collaboration with the RN, collects specimens per policy. The Endoscopy Technician assists in the advancement of the rigid and flexible endoscopes , assists the physician in the instrumentation through the scope, and is responsible for maintaining the position of the rigid and flexible endoscope to provide optimal visualization of the body organ for the surgeon.

Education: High School diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED) is required. Additional education in medical terminology and/or clerical skills is preferred. Must successfully complete LMHS orientation and demonstrate competency on all skills.

Licensure/Certification: Current BLS required. Certified as an Endoscopy Technician or Surgical Scrub Tech is preferred.

One or more of the following is required;

- As an RN student, have completed 2nd quarter or 1st semester clinicals in a Nursing Associate’s Degree or diploma program or be a 2nd year student in a B.S.N program.

- As an LPN student, have completed 2nd quarter or 1st semester clinicals in a Licensed Practical Nurse Training Program.

-Actively registered as an STNA in the State of Ohio.

-1-2 years' experience as endoscopy tech/assistant.

-A graduate of an Endoscopy Technician Certificate Program

Experience: Previous experience as an Endoscopy Technician or Surgical Technician and knowledge of prior authorization are preferred.

Skills: Must have excellent “customer service” skills, including the ability to exhibit patience and tact with all constituents including physicians, patients and associates. Must demonstrate flexibility with work schedule changes, be cooperative and collaborative, and have the documented ability to work with speed and proficiency while under stress. Must have basic computer skills and EMR (electronic medical records) experience. Must be able to print and write legibly and accurately, possess the ability to calculate simple mathematics and follow instructions. Also, must have demonstrated the ability of providing simple patient care and the ability to transport patients safely. Must obtain knowledge in infection control and prevention.
