Summary

The Engineer II is primarily responsible for general repairs and services in all maintenance related disciplines. The Engineer II performs routine and preventative maintenance to protect the assets of the hotel and to keep the hotel running smoothly.


The Engineer II shall strive to provide exceptional service to both internal and external guests at all times. They will be responsible for exemplifying the SCP’s Culture & Core Values.

The Job

  • Anticipate guests’ needs, respond promptly, and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day.
  • Observing guest reactions and conferring frequently with team members to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Maintain positive guest relations at all times. Resolve guest complaints to over-the-moon satisfaction.
  • Follow Hotel policies with lost and found items.
  • Adhere to Hotel requirements for guest and team member accidents or injuries and in emergency situations.
  • Continuously promote sanitation, safety, and security efforts.
  • Encourage Social Media/5-star compliments or reviews on OTA’s.
  • Embrace and exemplify the SCP Culture & Core Values in your day-to-day job duties.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment, including cleaning and lubrication.
  • Visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines.
  • Identify, locate, and operate all shut-off valves for equipment and shut-offs for buildings.
  • Maintain maintenance inventory and requisition parts and supplies as needed.
  • Assure each day's activities and problems that occur are communicated to the other shifts using approved communication programs and standards.
  • Display proficiency in any one of the following categories, above average skills in two more of the following categories and basic skills in the remaining categories:
  • air conditioning and refrigeration.
  • electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic systems and controls, carpentry and finish skills.
  • kitchen equipment.
  • energy conservation, and/or general building management.
  • Troubleshoot and perform basic repair on all types of equipment (e.g., pump and motor replacement), plumbing (e.g., plunge toilets and unclog drains), electrical equipment including lamps, cosmetic items, extension cords, vacuum cleaners, internet devices, replace electrical switches and outlets, and other guest room items.
  • Assist with surface preparation and painting, minor drywall and wood trim repair, light bulb and A/C filter replacement and the complete and thorough cleanup of the painting or repair area.
  • Display working knowledge of all engineering computer programs related to preventative maintenance, energy management, and other systems, including devices that interact with such programs.
  • Utilize computer skills in Microsoft Office and other software programs.
  • Perform mid-level troubleshooting of hotel Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems.
  • Report any maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries; complete safety training and certifications; and properly store flammable materials.
  • Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards, anticipate and address guests' service needs, assist individuals with disabilities, and thank guests with genuine appreciation.
  • Adhere to quality expectations and standards. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others, support the team to reach common goals, and listen and respond appropriately to the concerns of other employees.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of projects.
  • Inspect, plan and ensure that all materials and equipment are in complete readiness for service.
  • Maintain knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment.
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures, and standards.
  • Access all functions of computer/software systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Must be a United States citizen or possess a valid work permit.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English. Fluency in other languages is beneficial.
  • Must be able to accurately follow instructions, both verbally and written.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with urgency and empathy.
  • Outstanding coordination and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Professional in appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to learn, understand, and work within POS, PMS, CRM, and other Hospitality specific software systems.
  • Must have the ability to deal effectively and interact well with guests, vendors, and team members.
  • Must have the ability to resolve problems and/or conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.
  • Must have a valid State-Issued Driver's License.


Education and Experience

  • 2-Year Degree or Trade School.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a maintenance capacity required.
  • Or a combination thereof.
  • Advanced knowledge of repairing and replacing: electrical, plumbing systems, painting, HVAC equipment, refrigeration, kitchen equipment and general property maintenance.


Working Conditions

  • Must be able to stand and move freely about the property for the majority of the shift.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull 50 lbs, and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, and repetitive hand & arm movements frequently, and squeezing & overhead reaching occasionally.
  • Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, walk on uneven surfaces on a frequent basis.
  • Must be able to frequently handle objects and equipment to maintain the property.
  • Must be able to walk outside in a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, heat).
  • Must be able to climb stairs occasionally, both indoors and outside in a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, heat).
  • Must be able to work in variable room temperatures.
  • Must be able to work with loud noises.
  • Must have good vision, either natural or with corrective lenses.
