SUMMARY

The Risk Management Engineer position assumes responsibility for the development and maintenance of the station’s Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) and Balance of Plant (BOP) models to support risk-informed applications. Essential responsibilities for this position include performing activities to update risk-informed applications, providing support to the work planning process, and supporting the station as the technical expert for the implementation of risk-informed applications onsite. Additional duties include supporting other station and Engineering activities, as needed.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. (Preferred)
  • Master’s degree in technical discipline equivalent to 1 year of experience. (Preferred)
  • PhD in technical discipline equivalent to 2 years experience. (Preferred)
  • In lieu of above, a bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline plus 1 year applicable experience will be considered.
EXPERIENCE

  • Experience will determine the position/title and are listed below in the POSITION section. PRA experience is preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS

  • No certifications/license are required.
  • Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) certification or License is preferred.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs Systems Analysis - Prepare system analysis packages including, at a minimum, the following tasks:
perform system level plant walkdowns, develop fault tree models, document assumptions, define success criteria, identify system boundaries for purposes of PRA modeling, model system interactions/dependencies, model maintenance procedures, model system alignments, model operator actions, perform quantifications, and interpret system level results.

  • Performs Data Analysis - Collect, evaluate, and disposition plant specific operating data including initiating events, maintenance duration/frequency, operating hours, equipment failures, and common cause data. Be able to understand, develop and update PRA failure distributions using Bayesian methodology.
  • Updates Operator and human performance data - Collect and/or develop operator failure data for specific and general operator actions. Understand the methods used to develop human error rates for operator actions.
  • Performs Plant Level Analysis - Prepare, quantify, and document plant level quantifications used for sensitivity analyses or to support other projects and risk-informed applications.
  • Manages the interface with other departments and regulatory agencies by leading meetings and discussions to provide specific information and analyses to questions/problems as assigned by Section Supervisor.
  • Prepares/manages schedule and budget activities on a project level as assigned by Section Supervisor.
  • Provides mentoring and training to co-workers as assigned.
  • Reviews and evaluates industry documentation and event reports for relevant application to the Station and identify appropriate actions to take.
  • Performs duties of the Section Supervisor as delegated.
  • Provide PRA expertise when required to support complex plant issues or requests for assistance from other site organizations.
  • Attends and completes station, department or section required training as necessary for the position and as assigned.
  • Obtains and maintains unescorted access to support plant needs.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accept ERO position as assigned and be able to meet the time response requirements.
  • Accept outage position as assigned.

  • Ability to work independently and interface with all levels of personnel required.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering documents and drawings.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and use of word processing and spreadsheet software.
WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Hybrid work-from-home schedule currently available to Engineers upon obtaining necessary qualifications.
  • Overtime and alternate work schedules as assigned.
  • Office environment and working inside plant buildings with periodic visits to other offices and company property.
  • Support rotational engineering duty. Subject to callouts twenty-four hours per day seven days per week.
  • Travel (including overnight stay) may be required for business trips and training.
