South College invites applications at the Nashville Campus for the position of Full Time Faculty Member in English with an academic and/or professional background in writing, with strength in writing in the sciences and social sciences. This faculty member will teach writing and humanities courses online or on-ground, depending on student needs and preferences, as well as work in the Writing Lab, which works with faculty and assists hundreds of students each year in every discipline and at every level to become excellent researchers and writers. We seek candidates who will engage deeply and meaningfully with our students and find their passion in our mission.

Candidates are expected to be on campus for a minimum of 32 hours each week and to actively participate in the life of the community.

Requirements

  • A minimum of an acceptable master's or doctoral degree in English or a related discipline, or an earned master's or doctoral degree and satisfactory completion of 18 graduate semester hours in the discipline. Official, sealed transcripts will be requested from both undergraduate and graduate institutions.
  • The ability to provide quality instruction in each assigned course within the approved academic program curriculum.
  • The ability to work with students in the Writing Lab, offering prompt and focused feedback that helps students improve their writing and research skills.
  • The willingness to meet South College standards for classroom management, use of technology, student outreach, grade submission, and records management.
  • The ability to prepare and implement teaching and assessment strategies for the engagement of students.
  • The willingness to support student success through proactive engagement in the student learning process
  • The willingness to participate in professional development, community service activities, and campus events and meetings

Preferences

  • Experience and documented excellence in postsecondary teaching
  • Professional writing experience related to the areas to be taught
  • Familiarity with APA and/or AMA style
  • Familiarity with writing forms in the sciences and social sciences
  • Experience with Canvas LMS
