POSITION SUMMARY

The Enterprise Network Engineer is a highly skilled and experienced member of the Enterprise Network Team, reporting to the Senior Manager of Enterprise Network Operations. The Enterprise Network Engineer is expected to be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in general Networking concepts as well as with various Network Technologies.

Working with the Senior Manager and other Enterprise Architects and Engineers, the Enterprise Network Engineer is expected to lead or be a significant contributor to large projects that have major impacts across our company. The types of projects that help significantly “move the needle” in terms of providing increased capabilities, functions, and efficiencies for our business.

The Enterprise Network Engineer is expected to be a highly motivated self-starter. Someone who is comfortable working toward a defined goal with limited managerial oversight. The Enterprise Network Engineer is also someone who has learnt through experience and knows how to get results both through influencing parties within and outside of the job and through effective communication. This role also demands and expects broad Project Management experience and skills.

The Network Engineer will work in a dynamic, highly technical, and fun team. The successful candidate should be looking to develop their skills and experience in the role, working along a path towards either a senior individual contributor (i.e., a Network Architect) or a management track.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

General Responsibilities

  • Be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in general Networking concepts and specific Network and IT Technologies.

  • Lead, design, implement, build, and document Enterprise Network IT systems and projects that drive and support key business driven goals.

  • Provide key Network Engineering contributions to other Enterprise IT and Resort IT driven projects.

  • Collaborate with internal teams (i.e., Resort and Enterprise IT) plus external consultants and vendors in an effective manner to solve complex IT problems and help deliver IT projects on-time and on-budget.

  • Work with other IT department owners to identify opportunities to deliver projects that improve technology solutions while also reducing operational costs.

  • Work closely with Enterprise Architecture teams, and Sr. Manager of Network Operations to develop shot, medium and long-term IT strategies, priorities, and advocate for innovative changes in IT technologies Enterprise wide.

  • Work closely with IT Security, Compliance & Privacy to enforce standards, operational processes, and policies.

  • Support the operations teams by acting as the escalation lead for complex operation problems and issues.

  • Mentor other staff members within the Network Operations Team and help them develop new skills as well as guide them on processes and communication channels.

  • Produce technical and procedural documentation supporting the current as-built state of Enterprise network systems. Work with other Enterprise teams to continually update documentation and develop wiki or Teams channels to collaborate effectively across the Enterprise IT organization.

  • Stay current with new technology in the networking space, identify, evaluate, and recommend best of breed IT solutions. Prepare technology briefs to keep team members abreast of networking technology trends and provide input to IT infrastructure working groups as required.

  • Participate in an on-call/escalation rotation as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7 to 10 years of hands-on experience hands-on in a Network Engineering role for a large enterprise.

  • Expert level knowledge in the deployment, configuration and operation of Enterprise firewalls including Next Generation Firewall’s (NGFW’s), IPS/IDS systems and centralized firewall management tools.

  • Expert level knowledge in the configuration and operation of Enterprise WAN networks including SD-WAN, VPN based networks and WAN protocols.

  • Expert level knowledge and experience with the configuration and operation of Enterprise Datacenter networks.

  • Expert level knowledge in the configuration and operation of WIRED and Wireless campus networks.

  • Expert level knowledge in the configuration and operation of virtual networking technologies such as VMware vSwitch, VDS, NSX and Hyper-V.

  • Expert level knowledge in the configuration and operation of cloud networking on platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS and Google Cloud.

  • Advanced knowledge in the configuration and operation and of network device administration and network access security systems such as TACACS, RADIUS, Cisco ISE and/or Aruba ClearPass.

  • Advanced knowledge in the configuration and operation of Network management tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, WhatsUp Gold, Kiwi Cat-tools, Pingdom and Logic Monitor.

  • Advanced knowledge of common operating systems and hypervisor platforms such as Microsoft Windows, Unix, Active Directory, VMware vSphere, DNS and DHCP.

  • Advanced knowledge of and operational experience with Windows and Unix based network tools.

  • Hands on experience installing network equipment into racks along with experience with and “common sense” cable routing and knowledge of balancing systems across UPS power and rack power strips.

  • Strong project management skills. Demonstrate the ability to manage multiple project tasks and prioritize time effectively. Able to work independently and brings a “self-starter” attitude to the team.

  • Demonstrated ability to use Enterprise office tools, such as the Microsoft O365 Office Suite when producing documentation and working in collaboration with others.

  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with ability to interact with various levels of management and staff, as well as outside vendors, contractors, service providers and consultants.

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Visio and the ability to use Visio to produce physical and logical network diagrams.

  • Detail oriented with proven ability to manage and prioritize simultaneous requests and projects concurrently.

DESIRABLE ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Palo Alto PCNSE and/or PCCSE certification and expert level knowledge in the deployment, configuration and operation of Palo Alto Next Generation firewalls and cloud solutions.

  • Cisco CCNP and/or CCDP certification.

  • Aruba Certified Edge Professional.

  • Expert level knowledge in the configuration of scripts to support network operation including skills in scripting using Python, PowerShell plus vendor operation systems.

  • Expert level knowledge of Azure Cloud networking across multiple geographic regions.

  • Advanced knowledge of network load balancers and reverse-proxies.

  • Advanced knowledge of network automation tools and concepts.

  • Experience working with and managing Managed Service Providers, IT Consultants, and Telecommunications providers.

  • Experience managing department and project budgets.

  • Experience working with ITSM tools such as Fresh Service or ServiceNow.

  • Previous experience in ski, resort or hospitality management environment is highly desirable.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Electrical Engineering. Or the equivalent in on the job experience plus vendor certifications.

  • ITIL v3 Foundation’s certification or equivalent demonstrable ITSM experience is required.

The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the Alterra Mtn Co Shared Services Inc. salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Alterra Mtn Co Shared Services Inc.’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term and long-term incentives and many region-specific benefits.

Denver area base salary range: $85,000 - $128,000 per year
