Muller Engineering is looking to expand our environmental planning capabilities and is seeking an enthusiastic environmental professional to support transportation and water resource sector work. As a member of the Planning and Program Management team the Environmental Biologist/Scientist will function in a variety of project-related roles including environmental task lead and reviewer, and technical specialist. This position will include both fieldwork (within the state of Colorado) and office duties. The successful candidate has strong organizational skills and is results oriented.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare large technical reports, environmental compliance and permitting documentation with little direction from project managers
- Facilitate and perform field work and data collection i.e., wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species survey, noxious weeds survey, habitat assessments.
- Lead, develop, and/or conduct analyses in support of NEPA, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, and other applicable regulations
- Provide technical state and regulatory permitting expertise on internal transportation and stormwater projects including 404 permitting, Section 7 consultation, and CDOT NEPA coordination
- Lead and assist productive and organized meetings with clients and resource agencies; support stakeholder engagement; and coordination with federal, state, and local agencies
- Organize, coordinate, and write/or tech edit assigned sections of various deliverables such as work plans, compliance documentation, site investigation reports, feasibility studies, and permit applications.
- Review and red-line construction plans and notes; coordinate environmental requirements with reviewing agencies
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
- 4-8 years of direct or related environmental permitting and biological field survey experience, preferably in or related to transportation
- Bachelor’s Degree in biology, environmental science, ecology, natural science, or similar discipline.
- Proficiency in wetland delineations and botanical surveys. Specialization in ecology/botany preferred.
- In-depth understanding of NEPA and interfacing with Colorado and federal agencies (Army Corps of Engineers, BLM, CDOT, CPW, FEMA, FHWA, USFS, USFWS)
- Excellent and demonstrated technical writing and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and ability to work independently as well as in multi-disciplinary teams

Salary for this position is $68,000-$87,000/yr dependent upon experience.
