MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the Red Sea Initiative, USAID/Egypt is considering the following activities:
· The Red Sea Initiative will work with other donors to establish an independent Red Sea Coral Reef
Conservation Foundation with the goal of preserving the Red Sea coral reef and its ecosystem. This support
for this foundation is expected to “crowd in” donations from other actors - including international
organizations, private companies, foundations, philanthropists, environmental groups, and others. This
foundation will provide support to the coral reef ecosystem with funding over a period of 25 years or more.
· This foundation will provide support for convening and advisory services where the foundation will take a leadership role in convening and engaging the many Red Sea public and private stakeholders with technical assistance and grants to promote sustainable tourism.
· The foundation will also support a green investment facility that would use cost-sharing grants and blended finance to facilitate green investment activities (solar systems, water treatment, etc.).
The consultant will help USAID to refine its communication and nuanced “pitching” approach for USAID to engage different audiences, including other multilateral and bilateral donors, private sector partners, foundations, philanthropists, environmental groups, and others. This may possibly involve coordinating the messaging with another major donor organization.
The consultant will help USAID review and refine its oral presentations and written concept notes for donors. The consultant will suggest appropriate organizations, companies, foundations, philanthropists, and environmental groups that may have a shared interest in this goal. The consultant will be expected to have strong knowledge about the Egyptian donor and business environment and provide contacts at these organizations, as needed, to the extent possible. The consultant may attend events leading up to COP27, possibly including the conference itself, that would further this goal.
Special Deliverables:
· Review current strategy for enlisting contributions.
· Work with USAID staff to review pitching slides and offer constructive feedback on how to improve the slides and presentation style.
· Review and edit concept notes that could be left with potential donors after presentations have been made to answer any follow up questions.
· Review USAID’s list of target donors and offer suggestions to add or delete organizations as appropriate to this task.
· Offer points of contacts to key donor organizations that USAID would like to target to the extent possible, using the consultant's network of contacts.
· Join USAID presentations and provide constructive feedback later as needed.
· Provide guidance on how to secure financial commitments later after verbal commitments have been made.
· Other deliverables as needed to accomplish the objective
Key Position Requirement:
· At least 10 years professional work experience, of which at least five years of experience working to solicit funds (“pitching”) from firms, banks, or donors to help firms or organizations to expand and grow.
· Strong knowledge of the business, government, and donor environment in Egypt
· Strong knowledge of the investment world and principles
· Bachelor’s degree or higher in business administration, finance, economics, or related field
