We currently have an opening for an Estimator on our Indianapolis area team. If you are someone who is fluent in mathematical calculations, enjoys plan reading and technical specifications, and can visualize 3-D drawings in your head, this is the role for you!


Position Summary:

Generates cost estimates and new business opportunities in assigned markets

Essential Functions:

  • Generates and develops cost estimates
    • Analyzes plans, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare bids/quotes
    • Computes various cost factors
    • Prepares budgets for various disciplines of work
    • Ensures all estimates meet or exceed company and customer's expectations, as well as regulatory requirements
  • Develops beneficial business relationships
    • Develops good working relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, clients and INDOT personnel
    • Develops a network of contacts within the community
    • Develops good relationships internally
  • Performs day-to-day estimating tasks
    • Sets up jobs in job costing
    • Attends pre-bid and pre-construction meetings
    • Generates purchase orders and subcontractor agreements
    • Prepares change orders, submittals, and assists with other tasks as necessary to support the project team
    • Tracks and reviews cost history and incorporates into operational buy in review meetings
  • Communicates with internal/external customers.
    • Answers inquiries via phone, email, or in-person.
    • Provides highest levels of customer service.
    • Makes presentations to large and small groups
    • Translates technical information into easily understood language
  • Promotes and maintains safe work environment.
    • Exhibits safe work behaviors
    • Wears all prescribed PPE

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Technology, Construction Management, related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 1-3 years previous experience in cost estimating; experience in civil estimating is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in CAD, drafting, technical plan reading
