Job description
Do you enjoy technology and creating an incredible audio-visual experience, juggling lots of moving pieces, interacting with a wide range of people, thinking on your feet, and creating exciting reasons for people to come together? If so, this could be a great opportunity for you!

CIC is looking for a Part-time Events Tech Specialist to set up and staff CIC events, and support events production. The core schedule is Monday to Friday, amounting to 20-25 hours per week. You may occasionally be expected to work up to one weekend shift per month (this would be scheduled two or more weeks in advance). We’re looking for someone with a schedule open in the afternoon and evening to assist with our events happening later in the day.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY WORK
This person will join our Events teams to maintain and troubleshoot AV equipment in District Hall and CIC event spaces, train CIC Providence staff and clients to use the equipment, and identify and implement technical improvements to keep CIC Providence event spaces competitive.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintenance of CIC’s professional-grade audio and visual equipment, including audio interfaces, sound boards, amplifiers, speakers, wireless microphone systems, projectors, portable displays, multimedia devices, adapters, and cabling.
  • Maintain and organize equipment inventories and comprehensive training materials for audio and visual equipment at CIC Providence.
  • Troubleshoot A/V issues encountered by CIC clients and staff while utilizing our spaces and offerings. In the moment (preferably in-person) support when clients encounter equipment failure in a conference room or event space.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for evening Events team staffers in need of troubleshooting support. Coordinate and conduct A/V training events for new and existing staff members of various comfort/experience levels. Create and update training materials.
  • Lead quarterly meetings with Event team members to identify pain points, training opportunities, or persistent system challenges associated with technical equipment and needs within our spaces.
  • May spec and install professional-grade and easy-to-use AV equipment for use in CIC public spaces (event spaces, conference rooms, kitchens, etc). Identify changing needs of clients, event hosts, and CIC staff.
  • Stay up-to-date on new technology that could be implemented throughout CIC to keep the company ahead of the curve and competitive in a growing market. This may involve self-guided research, attending industry trade shows, developing relationships with vendors/technicians, and attending professional events in the greater Providence/Boston area.
  • Assist with physical setup of event spaces (eg. table and chair arrangement). Assist with advanced A/V setup for specific events (eg. multi-mic panels, MS Teams / Google Hangout / Zoom meetings, audio and video recording/streaming).
  • Support CIC clients with AV walkthroughs, intensive AV support during events upon request, developing training materials and signage for clients, and building strong professional relationships with clients and event hosts in the community.
  • General upkeep of CIC’s event spaces, including regular setup, storage, and organizing of standard offerings (seating, tables, plateware, whiteboards, etc).
  • Depending on availability and need, may support Global Events, CIC Tech, Construction, or Operations teams in specific time-bound projects, such as implementing new hybrid event setups.

ABOUT YOU
Overall, we like to employ service-minded people who are reliable, clever, and able to work independently. It’s not expected that you’ll know everything that we do on day one. What’s important is that you are a bright person, interested in what we’re doing, and willing to learn.

More specifically, we are looking for someone who possesses the following characteristics:
  • Independent, trustworthy, and willing to learn.
  • Experience and comfort with AV equipment (such as audio interfaces, audio & visual cabling, hybrid event technology) and troubleshooting.
  • Detail-oriented and organized with solid time management skills.
  • Able to keep calm in stressful situations.
  • Personable and naturally enjoys helping others.
  • Comfortable acting as an events “liaison,” welcoming new guests to the community.
  • Confidence in understanding nuances of written and verbal communication.
  • Enjoys working on their feet and being on the move. If you’re the type of person who finds yourself straightening chairs wherever you go, this may be the role for you!
  • Brings a fresh perspective and new ideas to everything.

YOU HAVE
  • At least 1 year of professional experience in a corporate environment.
  • Experience working with corporate event hosts and organizers.
  • A strong desire to make the use of technology and AV equipment a straightforward and pleasant experience.
  • May have previous experience in related roles for music or entertainment venues, running AV for local meetups or civic groups, or assisting with AV on set for video or other production environments.
  • The ability to lift and move up to 35 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. Please note that this job requires walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • Availability to work between 12:00 pm and 8:00 pm, Monday through Friday, for 20-25 hours per week. May require assisting with events during other times or days; we always plan at least two weeks in advance. Flexibility welcome!
  • The ability to work autonomously. You may be staffing events when most other CIC staff members are assisting with other events or have gone home, and a supervisor will not be onsite after 5pm. We are looking for someone who thinks critically and is able to respond thoughtfully in the moment.

If you don't meet all the requirements or qualifications but bring some other unique skills and experience that would be valuable in this role, please apply and highlight those attributes for us in your cover letter.

OUR OFFER
  • Starting compensation is $25/hour.
  • 401k matching after the first year of employment (must be 21+).
  • 13 paid holidays per year.
