Our Medical Affairs team advances patient care by engaging in scientific exchange with external medical experts and industry professionals ensuring the scientific value of our products is realized. We engage and train internal employees to ensure that they thoroughly comprehend the science behind the medicine and review further unmet medical needs to bolster collaboration and further differentiate our portfolio.

The Executive Director, Team Leader for Physician Consult Oncology is an office based function within Global Medical Affairs that is responsible for these core activities: Medical Information, Medical Review of Promotional Materials, Knowledge Management/Scientific Training and Medical Significance Assessments of company products as it relates to deletions, divestitures, and supply issues. All activities have a global scope. The Executive Director will oversee and manage a group of Oncology specific medical doctors who perform activities in collaboration with the non-physician Global Medical Information (GMI) Scientists, and are involved in cross-functional strategic activities including Speaker Training, product labeling, development of medical narratives, contributing to Medical Affairs Plans, and consultants to our commercial and manufacturing divisions.

Primary Responsibilities:

Management:

  • Oversees a group of high-performing expert physicians in oncology in the execution of global core Medical Consult and Review functions (Medical Information, Medical/Scientific Review of Promotional Materials, and Medical Education/ Training, Medical Significance Assessments).

  • Drives effectiveness of the team through leadership of scientific experts by collaborating with the other GMI managers to set the Oncology GMI direction and strategy.

  • Ensures consistency and best practices across the Medical Consult and Review Physician group by collaborating with the other MCRP Executive Directors (EDs) and GMIS management team.

  • Assesses and adjusts Oncology group resourcing and assignments based on Therapeutic Area (TA) and company priorities in order to achieve TA objectives.

  • Accountable for all Medical Consult and Review Physician team | oncology policies and procedures.

  • Develops and/or supports the development of operational solutions that support innovation and evolution of the Medical Consult and Review Physician team for Oncology.

  • Personally leads and/or assigns responsibility to Medical Consult and Review Physician team to lead project teams to develop solutions or update/develop new processes to meet emerging needs of key stakeholder/partners.

  • Leads, oversees, and/or participates in Medical Consult and Review Physician team, GMA, or commercial initiatives. Closely partner and provide medical support to tumor team leads and regional medical leads in therapeutic area.

  • Addresses challenges/escalations to achieve timely resolution.

  • Is accountable for the performance and results of oncology physician consult and review group and holds individuals accountable for achieving individual objectives.

  • Accountable for performance management, talent review, development planning, ongoing coaching, and mentoring to continually enhance skills and capabilities.

  • Responsible for Medical Consult and Review Physician team group human and fiscal resource planning and utilization. Supports fiscal stewardship and budget management in cooperation with VP, Global Medical Affairs

  • Ensures culture of compliance and holds departmental personnel accountable to adhering to our company policies and procedures.


Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Leverages and ensures collaboration with cross-functional partners throughout the company (Marketing, Training, Sales, Research and Development, CORE, Regulatory, Safety, NSC, Legal, Compliance, and Global Medical Affairs Tumor EDs and RDMAs) by actively building cross-functional collaborative relationships with key internal stakeholders is able to partner to drive change and evolve practices within TA to meet internal and external customer needs.

  • Ensures effective, timely, regular collaboration within Medical Consult and Review Physician team and with cross-functional colleagues (e.g., DET, PRT Job Owners, Legal, and OPAR) in order to achieve departmental and business objectives.


Medical Consult Review Physician Core Activities:

  • Maintains scientific expertise in assigned tumor group disease states and expertise in promotional regulations in order to advise, guide, and provide solutions.

  • As needed, perform core activities for specific product(s) including promotional material review/PRT participation, responding to Medical Information Requests (MIRs), developing/delivering medical education/training, and performing strategic responsibilities including input into global Marketing and Medical plans, participating in LEAD team(s) and Risk Management Safety Team(s), and the development of GMA Narrative(s).

  • Accountable for performance management, talent review, development planning, ongoing coaching, and mentoring to continually enhance skills and capabilities.

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • MD or equivalent medical degree

Required Experience and Skills:

  • 5 or more years Medical Information, Medical Affairs, and Medical Review experience

  • Expertise in oncology. Post-graduate clinical training (residency), and/or board certification, and/or pharmaceutical industry experience in a medical specialty related to the assigned therapeutic area(s)

  • Track record of working effectively to resolve compliance or operational/process matters with Medical Affairs colleagues as well as Pharmacovigilance, Regulatory, Legal and Compliance colleagues.

  • US and Global experience

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (written as well as oral), results-oriented project management, facilitation and consultative skills to influence decision making

  • Must be able to work in a complex organizational environment and have ability to effectively operate in a team-oriented structure

  • Experience in and knowledge of US promotional regulations and promotional material review

  • Broad leadership/management experience in pharmaceutical industry

  • Demonstrated ability to lead/build/reorganize teams of medical professionals

  • Demonstrated project leadership

  • Ability to work effectively across functions with commercial, clinical research, regulatory, legal and public affairs

  • Demonstrated experience with health literacy

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Knowledge in all areas relevant to our Company's Oncology business

  • Patient care and research experience

  • Experience in different roles within pharma beyond medical affairs
