Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to:
Providing engaging STEM experiences that inspire students to see themselves in a future STEM
Facilitate inquiry-based learning for students in the museum setting as well as in the Science Mill’s outreach programs, both remotely and in person.
Develop and test new curricula for educational and professional development programs.
Key Qualifications:
Excellent interpersonal skills with an upbeat and positive attitude who is capable of “opening doors” and building relationships
Self-starter and quick learner with a passion for improving education quality and equity for students from all walks of life as part of a dynamic, growing team
Ability to communicate effectively with and actively engage with varying levels of audiences, including students of all ages and their parents and families
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with children in formal or informal education settings
Experience with educational technology (e.g. microbit, hummingbird, ozobots, etc) and some coding/programming experience
2 years of experience working with K-12 students
Bachelor’s Degree

The Science Mill, located in Johnson City, TX, is a nonprofit science center.
We believe bold, innovative programs that represent a committed, sustained, multi-level approach to engaging our most marginalized students and supporting educators in the field is the key to building a strong STEM pipeline.
With interactive exhibits and programs, the Science Mill helps students expand their understanding of science, sparks curiosity, and inspires them to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields. Operating in a very dynamic environment, flexibility and teamwork are required. The team works collaboratively to ensure organizational success. This is a part-time position that, depending on the candidate's skills and expertise, can be performed remotely or on-site at the Science Mill in Johnson City Monday-Saturday.

Exhibit Explainer, Visitor Services Team
The Science Mill, a STEM science museum located in Johnson City, TX is seeking energetic, hard-working individuals to join our Visitor Services team as Exhibit Explainers. Explainers actively engage with museum visitors of all ages to encourage interactive learning and exploration of the exhibits throughout the museum. Our Visitor Services team is also responsible for creating a safe and clean environment for everyone who comes to the Science Mill. The ideal candidate would be interested in pursuing a career in teaching, science, technology, and/or working with or around children.
work schedule
We are hiring for summer staff - which includes weekday and weekend shifts. Holiday availability is required with some flexibility. Exhibit Explainers will be required to move throughout the museum property, both indoors and outdoors, for extended periods.
responsibilities and duties
Providing the highest standard of customer service to museum visitors.
Explaining STEM exhibits to guide exploration for kids of all ages as well as adults.
Turning on exhibits and preparing the museum for the day; turning off exhibits and cleaning museum public spaces at close.
Exhibit troubleshooting, light maintenance, and problem-solving as needed.

Positive, professional attitude and strong communication skills – enthusiastic extroverts wanted!
Self-starter with an interest in teaching, science, technology, engineering, art, and/or math a plus.
Willingness to learn new skills and help teach visitors about our unique exhibits.
Ability to multi-task, work hard, and be a team player.
Strong attention to detail is a must.
Part-time weekend and holiday availability.
Previous experience not required. Onsite training will be provided.
Previous customer service or hospitality experience is a plus!
