Job Summary: The Extra Help Early Head Start Assistant Teacher is a part-time, grant-funded position responsible for carrying out the routine care & supervision of toddlers ranging from ages 18 Months to 3 years of age. This position is governed by state licensing policies, Head Start Standards, as well as Better Beginnings requirements and NAEYC Standards. The Early Head Start Assistant Teacher will also assist with the oversight and laboratory experiences for students enrolled in the Early Childhood Paraprofessional Technology A.A.S. Degree Program.

Duties and Responsibilities: The Extra Help Early Head Start Assistant Teacher's primary responsibilities will include providing for the physical and emotional needs of preschool children, supporting educational and social experiences, and maintaining detailed records on students in their care. Additional duties will include documenting the observation/ interaction hours of undergraduate students, providing administrative assistance to the center director and/or coordinator, and performing other duties deemed necessary by the Coordinator or Director. The infants and toddlers in care will benefit from a unified birth-to-school-entry program that offers age-appropriate curriculum, broad-scale parent engagement activities, continuous and intensive comprehensive child development and family support services (i.e. home visits, health tracking and promotion) that will enhance the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of participating children; support parents efforts to fulfill their parental roles; and help parents move toward self-sufficiency.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Knowledge of Early Childhood Development and Education, Arkansas Minimum Licensing Requirements, Head Start Standards, NAEYC Standards, Environmental Rating Scales, and observation and assessment of young children. Ability to prepare, present, and review oral and written information. Ability to develop, developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities for young children. Ability to obtain and provide information, guidance, and educate parents. Demonstrated computer skills, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, e-mail, and database management. Good Verbal Skills.

Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood or Early Childhood Education.

Preferred Qualifications: Two years of experience working with infants and toddlers in a child care setting.
