POSITION OBJECTIVE

Working under limited supervision, the technician will perform preventative maintenance supporting the facilities of 11 patient-based clinics, 2 predoctoral multidisciplinary labs and all administrative areas of the management center located at the health education campus. The technician will provide needed maintenance services to research personnel located on the main campus as well.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Perform routine, preventative maintenance on over 200 dental clinic operatories; including but not limited to replacing hoses, flushing water and suction lines, repairing/rewiring of electrical lines, cleaning of biohazardous waste traps and sinks. In ranking the importance of duties, those in the emergency category are first. Beyond that, the technician must regard routine maintenance procedures as important and at the same time respond to work order requests submitted via the online ticketing system from students, faculty, and staff; prioritizing as they go. Notify requester when work has been completed. Communications with various dental equipment vendors and manufacturers to secure required replacement parts or assistance with troubleshooting issues. (40%)

2. Routine preventative maintenance performed on 80 dental simulation work benches in the pre-clinical simulation center. Repair and perform general maintenance of Kavo dental simulation units, including regular cleanings of vacuum units. Perform semi-annual sealing of countertops. Repair and perform general maintenance of the 40 workstation pre-clinical center. Maintain labs associated with the 80/ 40 pre-clinical centers paying particular attention to performing routine cleaning and replacing plaster traps. Communicate primarily with Kavo regarding the securing of necessary parts to repair existing simulation units. (30%)

3. Maintain records, reports, and inventory. Log all repairs and preventative maintenance into database for monthly reporting to the assistant dean of finance and operations and infection control officer. Report amalgam and biohazardous disposal of chemicals and equipment as required for state and local government agencies. File monthly report with the department of Occupational and Environmental Safety, requiring physical inspection of safety showers in all labs, fire extinguishers, chemical disposal areas, signage, stairwells, and other areas as required. 4. Move faculty and staff offices. Work with dental school and University Technology department to move computer and printer equipment. Move office furniture and secure/install necessary equipment as available (extra file cabinets, desks, bookshelves). (7%)

5. Serve as the main contact for departments with building-related maintenance issues (matters beyond the scope of the maintenance staff are to be reported to CBRE for review and follow up). This would include, but is not limited to lamping, elevator repair, temperature control issues, leaks, bio-hazardous spills/cleanup, general life safety matters. (10%)

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Transfer closed-out patient charts between the clinical building and the Service Center.

2. Provide aid hanging artwork, diplomas, special signage.

3. Remove all non-approved furniture, wall hangings, etc. as directed.

4. Participate in new construction, renovation project meetings as needed.

5. Install/repair new/existing dental/research lab equipment as needed along with occasional relocation of existing equipment. Maintain necessary equipment to complete required maintenance/ repairs.

6. As necessary, aid departments with the unloading of pre-clinical and clinical materials from delivery trucks.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: 2 to 3 years of related experience required. Trade experience in electrical and or plumbing preferred. Experience in repair of hydraulics/pneumatics is a plus.

Education/Licensing: High school education is required.

Certification in Electrical and or plumbing preferred.

Valid Ohio driver’s license is required.

REQUIRED SKILLS

1. Basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical repair.

2. Technical knowledge of hydraulics/pneumatics.

3. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Word.

4. Ability to work with a diverse population of faculty/staff/students.

5. Ability to meet consistent attendance.

6. Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face to face.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position involves working with industrial machinery including equipment containing biohazardous material, chemicals, and possible exposure to radiation from x-ray equipment. Employee must be able to lift 50-75 lb. boxes of material, furniture, and equipment. The employee will be required to drive their own vehicle while on the job. Ability to work on ladders is occasionally necessary. Must be able to work overtime during peak periods including Mock boards, Boards, Professional’s Day, Senior check out, Prophy Day(s), Graduation and other times as assigned.
