Description of Duties:

This position serves as a part time, temporary facilities support technician and reports to the Assistant Director of Morganton Facilities Management as well as the Director of Capital Projects and Morganton Facilities Management at NCSSM-Morganton.

This position performs duties as directed in the support of construction, repair, and maintenance of the NCSSM-Morganton campus facilities, grounds, and facilities, mechanical, and plumbing systems both internal and external to the buildings.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Repair, maintenance, improvement, and installation of finishes and non-license-requiring systems including, but not limited to: painting, drywall repair/patching, sanding of finishes, carpentry, tile repair, caulking, glazing, masonry, concrete work, light metal work, interior doors, frames and jambs, and flooring
• Installation of items, including mounting of support structure / hangers
• Use of hand and power tools
• Plumbing maintenance and repairs that do not require licensure
• Mechanical system maintenance and repairs that do not require licensure
• Groundskeeping activities
• Housekeeping activities (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wipe-downs, etc.)
• Unloading of delivery trucks and distribution of various freight
• Moving items within and between buildings or on the campus site by hand, by hand truck / dolly, with the assistance of a pallet jack, or with the assistance of a vehicle (including loading and unloading of said vehicle)
• Inspection of equipment or systems per direction
• Bending or crawling to access areas for construction, repair, or maintenance which could include confined spaces
• Reviewing the quality of work of others and/or holding others responsible for quality of directed work
• Assisting specialized personnel or contractors under the direction of NCSSM-Morganton Facilities Management staff
• Completing work orders as directed by NCSSM-Morganton Facilities Management staff
• Other duties as assigned

The desired candidate would have previous building construction, building repair, or building/grounds maintenance and customer service experience as well as:

• Experience in the use of varied hand and power tools
• Ability to follow directions and complete tasks as directed
• Ability to complete tasks according to plans or sketches
• Experience working in a school or office environment
• Experience working in a construction environment
• Ability to climb ladders and lift greater than 50 lbs without assistance
• Ability to bend or crawl to access areas with low clearance
