Position Summary
The Department of Pharmacy Practice at ACPHS (Albany Campus) invites applications from qualified candidates to join the College at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor (rank commensurate with experience) for a non-tenure track appointment. This position will be based in internal medicine with St. Peter’s Hospital. St. Peter’s Hospital (SPH), an affiliate of St. Peter’s Health Partners and the Trinity Health system currently providing 442 beds. St. Peter’s Hospital is a not-for-profit, community tertiary hospital with service areas in cardiac and vascular, oncology, orthopedic, gastroenterology, hepatobiliary, and addiction recovery care, among others.
The Family Medicine Team at SPH is an interdisciplinary teaching team that includes an attending physician, a PGY3 medical resident, a PGY2 medical resident, a medical intern, and the clinical pharmacy specialist. Pharmacy students, medical students, and dental residents also participate when assigned to the Family Medicine Service. Attending physicians and medical residents on the team are members of Albany Family Medicine, a medical residency program with inpatient and outpatient components. Patients whose primary care provider is part of the Albany Family Medicine group will be admitted to the Family Medicine Service at SPH, if hospitalized. This promotes continuity of care between inpatient and outpatient settings. The Family Medicine Service at SPH cares for approximately 10-12 hospitalized patients each day.
The faculty member will develop a patient-centered, team based, clinical pharmacy practice site with the internal medicine team at St. Peter’s Hospital. The faculty member will actively participate in the teaching mission of the College; provide appropriate service to the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SOPPs) and the profession of pharmacy; and engage in scholarship relevant to the innovations they develop in pharmacy practice or teaching and learning. The faculty member will work collaboratively with the providers and participate in experiential as well as didactic large and small-group teaching and learning.

A commitment to high-quality, innovative, student-centered teaching is essential for this position. The faculty member will actively participate in the teaching mission of the College; provide appropriate service to the College and the profession of pharmacy; and engage in scholarship relevant to the innovations they develop in pharmacy practice or teaching and learning. The faculty member will work collaboratively with the providers and participate in experiential as well as didactic large and small-group teaching and learning.
Service
The faculty member is expected to make appropriate contributions in the areas of service. This includes advising pharmacy students as assigned, participating in admission interviews and related enrollment management events, service to department, faculty, administrative committees, professional organizations, student organizations and communities outside ACPHS.
Scholarship
While not required, the faculty member is encouraged to engage in scholarly activity relevant to their area of expertise.
Responsibilities include:
- The faculty member will actively participate in the teaching mission of the College; provide appropriate service to the College and the profession of pharmacy; and engage in scholarship relevant to the innovations they develop in pharmacy practice or teaching and learning.
- The faculty member will work collaboratively with the providers and participate in experiential as well as didactic large and small-group teaching and learning.
- Develops and maintains a clinical practice site.
- Develops clinical disease management protocols and assess relevant outcome metrics for continuous quality improvement and scholarship.
- Liaises between the provider staff and the pharmacy manager.
- Develops APPE rotation objectives that meet ACPE standards.
- Participates in APPE rotations as assigned.
- Participates in didactic teaching as assigned.
- Attends/participates in monthly Department of Pharmacy Practice department meetings and other committee meetings as per assigned service.
- Advises pharmacy students as assigned.
- Performs teaching responsibilities as assigned by Pharmacy Practice Department Chair.
- Engages in scholarly activity relevant to their practice and teaching assignments.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of teaching and learning pedagogy and student success initiatives.
- Knowledge of academic programming related to pharmacy education.
- Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives, and exercise independent judgment.
- Ability to communicate and present information effectively to internal and external audiences.
Required Qualifications
- Pharm.D. degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy
- PGY1 residency experience,
- Eligibility for licensure in NYS.
Preferred Qualifications
PGY2 in internal medicine or internal medicine sub specialty
Physical Demands
Position requires that a substantial amount of work is completed sitting at a computer or laptop. The employee regularly communicates with other personnel via telephone, in person and e-mail. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
