Position Summary
This position will be responsible for promoting family engagement as a collaborative and strengths-based process through which early childhood professionals, families, and children build positive and goal-oriented relationships. Responsible for supporting the seamless provision of Early Head Start services and psychosocial development of children and the influences of family, community, and culture.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Employees are expected to be awake and alert while working.
  • Utilize the Head Start Parent, Family, and Community Engagement Framework (PFCE) as a guide to building family engagement promotes positive, enduring change for children, families, and communities
  • Ensure that each family receives education and assistance in the following areas: child development/education, health and mental health, social services available in the community, and parent involvement in all aspects of the program
  • Ensure ongoing age appropriate social-emotional screenings using evidence-based tools and use results to make necessary internal and external special education and mental health referrals as necessary
  • Assist with creating Individualized and Behavior Modification Plans for Children with atypical, cognitive, developmental and emotional behaviors
  • Conduct classroom observations and share observations of the child and discuss the child’s behavior and development collaboratively with the parents.
  • Support families in promoting their child’s development, parenting strategies, behaviors, social/emotional needs, and establishing routines
  • Advocate for families and provide referrals for community and family resources
  • Provide crisis and/or emergency intervention, and short-term counseling to children and families as needed.
  • Provide individual and group counseling as well as education on parenting skills and childhood development.
  • Keep accurate and timely documentation
  • Deliver Professional Development on a variety of related topics
  • Work with staff to develop and follow-up on transition plans for each child and families at least 6 months prior to leaving the program.
  • Provides support and supervision for staff
  • Ensure that enrollment intakes, Family Outcomes Assessments, Family Partnership Agreements, home visits, transition planning, and other related tasks are scheduled and conducted
  • Lead continuous improvement of family service team performance and initiatives in the realms of parent engagement, documentation, operations, performance management, and client satisfaction.
  • Organize systems and procedures for guiding the work of family service staff to facilitate the delivery of high-quality services to children, families, and community partners. Manage compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Plan socializations in collaboration with leadership team to ensure each child’s individual needs are met
  • Coordinate with Content Area Specialists (Health, Education, Disabilities, and Mental Health) to ensure clear communication and sound planning of conjoint activities across all program options
  • Develop and maintain community partnerships information, keeping contacts up to date and ensuring community linkages
  • Represent Agency in community early intervention advocacy groups, coalitions and committees as needed and assigned
  • Participate in EHS Parent Committee, Health Services Advisory Committee, Self-Assessment Review Team, Selection Committee, and outcome measurement activities as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
Requires a Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or related field with at least one year of related experience. Familiarity with Head Start Performance Standard is preferred.
Certification / Licensure
Requires a valid driver’s license.
