The Forest Ecosystem Monitoring Cooperative (FEMC) is a long-term forest health, environmental monitoring and research program formed by a partnership of the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources, The University of Vermont, and the USDA Forest Service. The FEMC provides monitoring, coordination and data management services to cooperators across the Northeast.
The FEMC Data Analyst provides data, analytical, scripting, spatial analysis and data modeling support for FEMC products. These products are defined by the evolving needs of FEMC cooperators with the goal of understanding, tracking and responding to forest ecosystem health issues. These projects range from the integration and analysis of disparate datasets to the development of new web-based and geospatial data visualization tools.
The Data Analyst will provide functional supervision to temporary hourly employees, student employees and contractors, including quality control of the work produced.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in ecology, forestry, geography or other field related to environmental science.
Demonstrated experience conducting spatial analyses, developing spatial maps, web mapping tools, scripts and code to analyze and visualize data.
Experience with Carto, ArcGIS (Pro) software suite, Google Earth Engine and online mapping platforms, including ArcGIS Online.
Strong familiarity with basic research principles and methods, general applied statistics, data acquisition and sampling methods required.
Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge of ecological systems and environmental issues of the Northeast preferred.
