Job Summary:
Black Fork Strategies Field Director is a staff position that reports directly to the Executive Director. The position is responsible for the design and implementation of Ohio’s field program, in conjunction with its primary client (the OOC). This includes working within the organization's strategic approaches to: [1] plan, lead and execute the field, phone, and canvass programs, [2] act as OOC’s field advisor and [3] support other strategic field outreach initiatives and opportunities.
Required Skills & Abilities The Field Director is a self-motivated and detail-oriented critical thinker with a strong track record of successfully and concurrently managing a variety of initiatives. They are committed to the principles of social justice, and have an extensive background with running field campaigns. Must have extensive knowledge of and experience working with voter files, modeling and targeting, and the Voter Action Network (VAN). The candidate should have some experience drafting field plans and managing large staff & diverse staff teams. Skilled project manager who can direct themselves and others. They are committed to the principles of social justice and have a strong leadership background, and have experience working successfully in politically sensitive and high-pressure environments.
Job Responsibilities
Recruitment, Hiring and Training:
● Volunteer and canvasser recruitment activities and ensuring that recruitment goals are achieved throughout the duration of the program
● Oversight of the interviewing and hiring of all successful applicants
● Ensuring the successful training and orientation of all canvassers, volunteers and leaders.
Management:
● Providing Organizers and canvass teams with the positive leadership culture, resources, guidance and technical support required to succeed during each phase of the program while ensuring compliance with all policies and best practices
● Ensuring that all canvasses are launched and completed in a timely, orderly fashion.
● Promoting the continued development of canvass teams in their day-to-day duties and responsibilities over the course of the program
● Manage overall field operations, tracking performance to goals, for multiple campaigns
● Regular field spot checks and field audits for quality control of canvassing teams
Accountability:
● Communicating all pertinent on-the-ground information and providing timely response to requests from Field Organizers and the Executive Director.
● Ensuring that canvass teams maintain accurate and reliable data
● Providing the Executive Director with daily quantitative and qualitative reports as part of an ongoing evaluation of the program’s success
● Establish accountability systems in the field to ensure that campaign goals are met, including the implementation of post-campaign debriefs and assessments
Development/ Strategy:
● Collaborate with the Executive Director to design field program strategy and implementation in coordination with state-level leadership.
● Conceptualize and construct plans for field operations work plans, and overall timelines with the oversight of the Executive Director.
● Develop organizing strategy to assist in setting overall program and/or campaign priorities and design
● Other responsibilities as needed

Position Details The Field Director is a full-time salaried position. A Bachelor's Degree is preferred but persons meeting the skills listed above should still apply. Benefits include health/dental insurance, vacation, and retirement match. Prior to starting the position, the Field Director must reside in Columbus Ohio, possess a cell phone, an Ohio driver’s license and have access to a reliable, insured automobile. Extensive in-state and some national travel is required. Weekend and evening hours will be required. Work-related expenses are reimbursed according to policy. Physical requirements include frequent standing, walking, ability to sit in meetings and lift moderate weight for supplies.
Salary This position offers a highly competitive salary, based on experience. Salary Range for this position will be $91,000 - $115,000.
