Job Title: Field Safety Inspector
Department: Outfitting & Installation

Summary
The Field Safety & QA Inspector will work to protect employee health and safety by making sure risks in the workplace are properly controlled. Assists in conducting and coordinating the facilities safety and environmental programs to ensure that the company provides a safe work environment in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Enforces safety policies and procedures to ensure that the company and its subcontractors are compliant with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Plans, implements, and executes programs to train employees and new hires in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct use and handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, tools, equipment, and other materials.
  • Inspects the company’s operations to detect existing or potential fire, accident, and health hazards, determine corrective or preventative actions where indicated, implements actions, and follow up to ensure actions taken are effective.
  • Determines needs and ensures that information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials are in place to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
  • Leads the investigation of near misses, accidents and injuries and document the testimonies, conditions, and causes and determine the recommended actions to prevent recurrence. Implement actions and follow up to determine the effectiveness of actions taken.
  • Ensures that accidents and injury reports are documented and submitted as required by OSHA, to the company and our insurance providers.
  • Works closely with Production Department and Human Resources in the coordination of the return-to-work program.
  • Plans, schedules, and ensures that material is available for all safety meetings and that meeting notes are recorded and filed.
  • Represents the organization in local community or industry safety groups and programs.
  • Observes crews at work and reports violations in safety precautions.
  • Investigates accidents to determine causes and devises preventive measures
  • Conducts vessel, building and grounds surveys on periodic and regular basis to detect code violations, hazards, and incorrect work practices and procedures
  • Ensuring workers are provided with suitable protective equipment, such as eye goggles, ear protectors or appropriate types of gloves and clothing.
  • Keeping up to date with new legislation and health and safety standards.
  • Conduct Daily Safety Walk-Through Inspections with Shipyard Safety Inspectors.
  • Writing Daily Safety reports on results of inspections and investigations and completing detailed paperwork
  • Providing training and educational support to employers and new/trainee employees
  • Maintain occupational health and safety training matrix
  • Performs administrative and record-keeping functions in support of the safety organization for the company
  • Understand and act upon instruction
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment- hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots/shoes and, when necessary, respirator.
  • Work independently to complete responsibilities.
  • Must have regular, reliable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Monitoring non-conformities issued during production stages suppliers as well as internal operations. Cooperation with other departments to eliminate Non conformities and implementing corrective actions.
  • Report, collect, analyze information/documentation from suppliers and projects regarding Quality Control and supervision.
  • Recommend manufacturing, technology aids or steps of action to improve quality results during various project stages.
  • Performing Quality Inspection of products manufactured by Trident’s suppliers like Visual Inspection of fabricated parts, Inspection of welding process, review of documentation. Ensuring production was according to required ' standards.
  • Performing Audits on Supplier site or Trident Maritime Systems project site.
  • Cooperation with Quality Assurance department in implementing internal Quality control and related procedure into Trident’s QMS system.
  • Supervising of Quality Control Personnel assign to project sites.
  • Supervising/Monitoring of registers like "Monitoring and Calibration Equipment", "Non-Conforming Report Log" and Corrective Active Reports (CAR) Log.
  • Supervising/helping with preparation of Final Project documentation.
  • Creating of Inspection and Test Plans, Control Plans, etc.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
Minimum of two years of technical school or community college; and 3-5 years related
experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Comprehensive understanding for federal, state, and local compliance issues related to safety rules and regulations including OSHA 1915 and OSHA 1910 standards.
  • Knowledge of SDS chemical safety and OSHA requirements for recordkeeping.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft products including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business publications, technical procedures and governmental regulations relating to Safety.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to conduct safety investigations and corrective actions.
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to effectively educate and train employees.
  • Ability to assume responsibility, display initiative and exercise good judgment.
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
  • HAZMAT, CPR, and First Aid Training.
  • 10-HR OSHA Certified.
  • VSRA Permit Authorized Individual (PAI) Certified.
  • Maritime Trade experience preferred.
  • Maritime rules and regulations: OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH, ANSI, EPA and State and Local regulations.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively present complex topics in a concise manner.
  • Effective interpersonal skills dealing with people at various levels and in a variety of functions.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products.
  • Must have reliable transportation, maintain a current valid driver’s license with a record that allows the operation of company vehicles.
Preferred:
  • Construction and/or Shipyard experience.
  • Training experience.
