Person will work independently to provide daily technical assistance to customers regarding the operation, repair and/or maintenance of locomotives pcontracted for maintenance by MPI. Position requires extensive locomotive experience and judgement to logically work through issues, find a solution and manage customer expectations.. Provides customers with superior service, checks repair status, handles parts shipments, maintains and ships loaner equipment, and documents all problems and repairs. May lead and direct the work of others.
For the majority of time,the employee will be located at customer sites and will be expected to maintain and project a professional image for the company.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
1. Provide daily technical assistance to MPI customers regarding the operation and/or maintenance of locomotives
Perform maintenance and repairs for customer locomotives
Coordinate activities with Field Service Supervisor
Conduct daily activities with high integrity and accuracy
Document all repair activities and submit invoicing documentation in a complete and punctual manner.
Collect data from locomotive systems for troubleshooting and maintenance
2. Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining professional working relations with customers.
Represent and maintain the Company's professional image.
Provide customer with superior service,
3. Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective working relations, communication, and coordination with Company personnel and management.
Assist and support area personnel as needed.
Keep management informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
Attend and participate in meetings as required.
4. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
Complete special projects as assigned.
Ensure that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
LEVEL GUIDE
TECHNICAL POSITONS WITH 2 LEVELS
Level I –Journey. Applies standard concepts, skills, practices and procedures. Developing advanced skills in procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and equipment appropriate to the specialization. Duties and tasks are more standardized. Performs some more advance functions as part of training and development. Resolves routine questions and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher levels. Works under general supervision and selects from a variety of established procedures to accomplish assigned tasks. Typically reports to a lead.
Level II – Senior or Lead. Applies advanced skills in area of specialization. Adapts procedures, techniques, tools, materials and equipment to meet special needs. Duties and tasks are varied and complex. Resolves most questions and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher levels. Relies on extensive experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals. Works under minimal supervision. May be designated as a “lead” worker and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required. Typically reports to a remote manager.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
Completion of maintenance and repairs as assigned in a timely and efficient manner.
Excellent customer relations are maintained . Customers are provided professional and prompt technical repair service.
Problems are politely and quickly researched, resolved, and documented.
Invoicing documentation is complete and turned in promptly.
Effective working relations exist with Company personnel. Assistance is provided as needed.
Management is appropriately informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification: At least one year experience working on locomotives is desired. To include primarily mechanical systems. Experience installing composite panels is desired. Strong organizational and communications skills are also required.
Experience Required: A good working knowledge of locomotives. Strong computer skills also required. Previous locomotive service work helpful. Customer service experience preferred.
Skills/Abilities: Able to follow test plan instructions with high degree of accuracy
Good communications skills.
Sensitive to customer needs.
Well organized and attentive to detail.
Strong team player.
Able to work independently.
Able to use all related software and hardware.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION
Finger Dexterity: Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.
Talking: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
Average Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
Repetitive Motions: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Climbing up and down onto locomotive.
Average Visual Abilities: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery.

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
