EdFarm was launched in February 2020 in Birmingham, AL to create a suite of signature programs designed to engage students, educators and adult learners in innovative digital skills experiences that better prepare them for the 21st-century workforce. In February 2021, EdFarm, in partnership with Apple and Southern, announced plans to launch the Propel Center, a physical and virtual hub based in Atlanta, GA that will partner with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to provide powerful learning experiences for HBCU students and staff and increase the pool of HBCU graduates entering and leading the innovation economy.
Role Overview:
EdFarm | PROPEL is seeking a Financial Analyst to join the Finance Team and support, monitor, and evaluate all daily finance accounting activities. You will be expected to be hands and work directly with other members of the Finance team, as well as work interdepartmentally with other team members within the organization. We are looking for a highly-analytical professional who can support the smooth running of a company's finances by identifying solutions to financial issues and preparing reports for the Executive Team. This person must be able to research and review the company’s statistics to make forecasts and projections that help build more comprehensive budgets. You will support the development of strategies to assess, manage, and minimize any potential financial risks.

You are an experienced analyst with a strong understanding of Finance and Accounting principles. You act with urgency, hold yourself to exceptionally high standards, and are deeply committed to serving HBCU students. You will directly implement day-to-day financial activities, including but not limited to: accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger. This position reports to the Vice President of Finance.

How You'll Do it:

    • Maintain vendor relationships with regard to payment and compliance in tandem with the Administrative Team, including W-9 and Certificate of Insurance collection and management
    • Analyze and forecast reporting by creating models and dashboards to reduce financial risks with activities such as reconciliation of bank accounts, preparation of monthly work papers, monthly close in compliance with GAAP, weekly processing and preparation of invoices and transactions
    • Work with VP of Finance in management of the budget process
    • Work cross-functionally to to coordinate and support various functional areas with department leaders to meet financial needs and budget objectives
    • Work cross-functionally to prepare and provide information pertaining to grant requests and obligations
    • Monitor and ensure expenditures are coded correctly to accounts, department and Statement of Work
    • Administration and management for various systems and databases, such as Airbase, Inacct, and Earth Class Mail, for ease of functionality in finance and accounting processes
    • Ensure reporting on accounts payable compliance (missing invoices/receipts, open items, vendor issues etc)
    • Prepare, manage, and coordinate collection of information for annual compliance reporting for 990, 1099, and various business, state, and federal filings as needed
    • Ad hoc analysis where applicable

What You Bring:

    • 5-7 years of experience in Financial Management and Accounting; experience in a leadership or supervisory role
    • Strong belief in the Historically Black Colleges & Universities tradition
    • Demonstrated knowledge of implementation and maintenance of internal controls, budgeting, financial statement preparation, and analysis
    • Experience in budget preparation and projections
    • Strong PC skills including Excel, Word and financial accounting systems.
    • Exceptional training in all areas of accounting, including management and accounting for accounts receivable, accounts payable, maintenance of a general ledger, credit, collections, and inventory.
    • Exceptional writing and editing skills for integrated plan development, slides, etc with a strong attention to detail
    • Strong organizational, analytical, verbal and written communication skills
    • Exceptional ability to plan and prioritize multiple cross-regional/functional demands by exhibiting strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
    • Track record of success in fast-paced, growth-stage companies; ability to navigate start-up culture and build systems for scale
    • Highly adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity and change
