Job description

Steam Logistics was founded in 2012 to tackle the most strategic challenge many companies face: how to align the supply chain so goods move efficiently, quickly, and economically. As a full-service provider, we offer end to end services to help our customers move commodities around the world, from their origin point to their final destination. We’ve rethought the brokerage paradigm and are innovation leaders in our space, looking for the right people to join us as we scale. We are extraordinarily proud of the company we’ve built so far (not to mention humbled to be recognized as Best Places to Work in Chattanooga). Our people are Steam’s biggest competitive advantage, and we’ll continue investing in our people-first culture.

The Opportunity

As a Financial Analyst, you’ll identify trends and actionable insights from our data and use analytics to develop recommendations on how our sales team can move the needle. This is an entry-level role, but you will be instrumental in developing out our analytics framework that will scale Steam to the next level. What will you be doing? The day can vary, but mainly tracking Steam’s financial performance, analyzing our performance and market conditions to create forecasts, and helping senior management make tactical and strategic decisions by compiling reports. This person will learn the ins-and-outs of all services that Steam offers and become an integral part of Steam’s finance team. Steam has grown 1,777% in the past year, so this role is meant for an individual who can work independently and effectively in a fast-paced, high growth environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform internal and external economic research and analyze issues related to specific financial metrics to ensure competitiveness
  • Recommend changes in financial analysis methods or procedures
  • Prepare reports and projections based on financial and operational data in a timely manner and with accuracy
  • Identify opportunities for performance improvement/growth across the organization, specifically focusing on divisional and broker analysis
  • Assist in developing alignment within the financial reporting process across all internal stakeholders, particularly senior leadership
  • Complete special projects on an as-needed basis

What We Need from You

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a relevant field; CPA or CMA a plus
  • O-2 years of experience in the finance industry, or a related field
  • Strong grasp of Excel and Microsoft Suite
  • Basic understanding of the principles of finance
  • Analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively
