Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Financial Reporting, this position ensures the accuracy and integrity of William & Mary (W&M) and Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) financial statements and system data to meet the needs of the university.
Duties include but are not limited to:

- Responsible for the reconciliation of all university bank accounts including VIMS bank accounts.
- Ensure the accuracy of data being reported in Banner for various general ledger accounts; identifying errors and recommending resolutions for issues as they arise.
- Compile and consolidate quarterly receivable reports from the Bursar’s office and sponsored programs.
- Responsible for the fiscal year-end reporting of bank balances for inclusion in the university’s financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Act as a liaison with other university departments that interface with the receivable system (i.e.: Telecommunications, Campus Parking, Post Office, Swem Library, Student Health Center, etc.) to ensure the timely collection of information and accounting transactions.
- Complete miscellaneous reports, schedules, and footnotes for financial statements as needed.
- Provide documentation and support for audit as for the Auditor of Public Accounts and assist with fluctuation analysis and explanation.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field OR the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience with financial accounting utilizing Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience reconciling bank accounts.
- Working knowledge of bank and journal entry reconciliation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to extract and analyze data, resolve discrepancies and exercise sound judgment when making decisions.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external constituencies.
- Strong organization skills with the ability to work independently in a fast pace environment and handle multiple priorities within the allotted deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s accounting system, policies and procedures.
- Experience preparing a variety of reports and general ledger reconciliations is highly preferred.
- Banner finance experience is a plus as is experience in governmental and/or higher education accounting.

This position may require additional hours beyond the typical work week, especially during peak times, such times as during financial statement preparation.
This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.
