The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an opening within our Office of Finance, Budget, and Economics. This is a professional fiscal position with the responsibility of applying government accounting principles and standards to accounts payable functions including travel expense reimbursements, financial analysis, auditing, and adjustments to financial data. This position acts as a lead analyst over travel expense reimbursements, annual 1099 reporting to vendors and the IRS, and unclaimed property and compensatory tax tracking and reporting to the Washington State Department of Revenue (DOR).

Duties

Responsibilities:

  • Review of daily agency financial transaction error and in-process reports
  • Petty Cash account management
  • Act as Statewide Vendor Table liaison between vendors, DNR, and the Office of Financial Management (OFM)
  • Process warrant cancellations and report unclaimed property to the Department of Revenue (DOR)
  • Review, approve, and release payment and journal voucher documents in the Agency Financial Reporting System (AFRS) or DNR’s Financial Expenditure System (FES)
  • Process vendor payment and employee travel reimbursement documents
  • Reconcile sales and use tax reports and remit compensatory tax to DOR

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 18 quarter or 12 semester credit hours of accounting or related field.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles with experience in accounts payable.
  • Experience and proficiency using computers and computer systems, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Excel and Word.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Ability to maintain high levels of accuracy with a heavy workload applying attention to detail in everyday tasks.
  • Ability to be focused and to prioritize work to meet inflexible deadlines while dealing with constant interruptions.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Consistent ability to effectively and respectfully communicate with co-workers and diverse clientele.

Working Conditions:

Desired Qualifications:
  • An Associate of Arts (AA) degree in accounting or related field. Professional experience may substitute for education but not for the required credit hours.
  • Experience analyzing and reconciling general ledgers.
  • Knowledge of state receivables and payables processes and procedures.
  • Experience with FES and NATURE.
  • Experience with AFRS, Enterprise and Webi Reports.
  • Knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), specifically accounts payable and expenditures.
