Essential Job Functions:
This will be a full-time Fly-in position. You will be expected to travel 50% of the year. The remaining weeks will be spent working remotely. You will be expected to attend weekly meetings, and be available during performance hours for any troubleshooting needs by the tour, with possible last-minute travel to shows in need. Your general responsibilities, under the supervision of the Operations Technical Director, will include:
- Ability and desire to regularly fly-in to multiple tours within North America, UK, EU, and South America.
- Be available for remote troubleshooting during performances and special events.
- Highly organized and efficient. Time management skills are key.
- Leadership skills and experience directing tour teams during load-in and load-outs.
- A quick-thinking problem-solver with the ability to find strategic solutions, during time constraints and at times a high-pressured environment.
- Collaborative approach with touring staff and willingness to evolve all aspects of the load-in and load-out process, including regular reviews and incorporation of better safety protocols, operating procedures, and team dynamic.
- Preserve the ongoing; long-term “opening night” quality, the designer’s vision, and the artistic integrity of the production according to the needs of artistic, technical, and company management.
- Maintain a safe working environment at all times, by adhering to all established safety policies and procedures, tour rules and regulations; participate in all required safety classes.
- Accepting all other duties as assigned by the Operations Technical Director.
Job-specific requirements:
- Supervise and assist touring staff with all lighting elements during load-in and load-out.
- Program and troubleshoot the GrandMA3 console for validations, shows, rehearsals, and other events.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with the tours, show designers, and vendors.
- On occasion, participate in special projects, including the installation of new show elements.
- Develop a thorough knowledge of technical equipment on multiple tour productions.
- Work simultaneously with multiple tours and be available to remotely troubleshoot lighting equipment and step in when needed.
- Observe safe wiring practices and maintain equipment, in accordance with industry standards for safe operations.
- Participate in special projects, including the installation of new lighting show elements
- Develop a thorough knowledge of Lighting Department equipment specific to the production, to operate it safely.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- At least 7 years of previous experience as a professional Lighting Technician.
- Previous touring experience preferred
- Extensive operating and programming knowledge of GrandMA lighting consoles
- Working knowledge of digital test equipment for troubleshooting and repairs.
- Comprehension of basic principles of AC/DC electricity, basic electronics, and computer operations, as it pertains to lighting systems.
- 10-hour OSHA course completion card a plus.
- Current First-Aid certification a plus.
- Experience with Vectorworks.
- Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Must have a working knowledge of the Google platform.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Ability to work in North America, the UK, the EU, and South America.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
- Verification of the right to work in the United States, as demonstrated by completion of the Form I-9 upon hire and the submission of acceptable documentation (as noted on the Form I-9) verifying one’s identity and work authorization.
