The Opportunity:
The Forklift Operator is responsible for operating and managing industrial trucks to load and unload materials and deliveries and move them to and from storage areas, machines, trucks, and loading docks. They are responsible for all activities associated with safely operating and caring for the forklift and the proper operation of the forklift at our facility in addition to participating in cross training efforts for specific plant needs and sharing those duties with other drivers.

How you will impact WestRock:
Inspect forklift daily at the start of the shift ensuring all safety features are operational. Complete checklist documenting inspection.
Safe operation of forklift, moving materials throughout the facility. Responsible for the overall safety and cleanliness of the equipment and work area.
Assure all materials shipped and warehoused are handled in a manner that prevents damage. Load and unload trucks; warehouse products and materials.
Use an RF scanner for receipts, issues to lines, returns and bar code locations.
Verify all counts, quantities, quality and descriptions of products and materials received, shipped or warehoused.
Service production lines, delivering products and/or components as requested.
Timely and accurate completion of paperwork associated with the movement of product and materials.
Responsible for general cleanliness of the warehouse and the loading docks.
Perform regular inventory and cycle counts. Safely change forklift propane tanks and/or batteries as needed.
Assist other departments as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.

What you need to succeed:
Understanding and demonstrating the behavior that the safety of yourself and other coworkers is paramount and is the #1 priority here at WestRock.
Minimum 1 years’ experience in safely operating a forklift.
Must have the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondences and memos.
Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manuals.
Must have the ability to perform intermediate arithmetic dealing with decimals, fractions, ratios, etc.
High school diploma or its equivalent is required.
Must be able to work overtime as needed; significant overtime may be required during busy periods.
Must be able to maintain good attendance.
Ability to lift, push or pull 50 lbs, navigate stairs, stand, walk, bend, and kneel through the entire shift.
Demonstrate positive interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
Must be able to perform all the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
