Assesses and provides nutrition treatment, consultation, and /or education to a primarily specialized group of patients and/or families as ordered by physicians. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Medstar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.
Education
Education
- Bachelor's degree B.S. degree with a major in Food & Nutrition from accredited college or university which includes an accredited dietetic internship Required or
- Master's degree M.S. degree in food and nutrition with approved training from the American Dietetic Association Required Experience
- 5-7 years Progressive clinical nutrition experience Required or
- 3-4 years Clinical nutrition experience Required Licenses and Certifications
- CNSD - Certified Nutrition Support Dietitian/Clinician Required or
- CDE - Certified Diabetes Educator Certification or
- American Dietetic Assoc - ADA Registered by the American Dietetic Association or Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Licensed in the District of Columbia Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Current knowledge of clinical dietetics.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Flexibility in schedule and tasks, as needed.
- Computer skills.
- Legible handwriting.
- Good customer service skills and attitude, team player.
- Consults with and/or makes recommendations to physicians and other allied health professionals regarding patients' nutritional status, nutrient needs, or specific diet plans.
- Formulates nutritional assessment, evaluation, and follow-up for patients at high risk (comprehensive are level) or according to departmental policy for patients who may be at risk and recommends patient's nutrition treatment plans findings in patients medical record.
- Consults in/outpatients in diet rationale for self-management.
- Participates in clinical rounds, and appropriate department/service meetings and communicates appropriate information to administrative personnel in the service area. Assigned Critical Care Units and General Medicine Floors. Must be flexible to cross-train to Neonatal ICU and Pediatric ICU.
- Takes part in ongoing marketing efforts for new contracts and fee for services programs.
- Reviews at least two annual reviews of literature pertinent to the area(s) of responsibility and presents to peers in Journal Club.
- Attends pertinent meetings to enhance clinical practice to support growth, recorded and documented in CDR Professional Development Plan.
- Performs at least one annual formal professional presentation in the area of specialty to medical or allied health professionals.
- Develops and implements at least one of the following: education material, new policy or policy change, new form such as nutrition care plan, nutrition form to go in Medical Record, TPN/TF form, or booklet such as nutrition care for specific disease states, in area of specialty.
- Provides relief coverage, as delegated, for in/outpatient services.
