CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

This role is accountable for developing, implementing, leading, and executing the strategy and market plans for the Global Transportation Business in the General Industrial Business Unit. Key measured metrics includes sales growth, profitability management & improvement, and product pipeline management and opportunity pipeline development.

The position provides strategic direction & leadership for counterparts and team members in Sales, Business Development, R&D and Product Management in all global regions. Gaining and keeping alignment of cross-functional teams to drive strategy execution is critical.

Position Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive Transportation Strategy- inclusive of specific sub-segment execution plans
  • Align regional sales, R&D and Product Management resources to execute the growth plan
  • Establish leading operational and lagging financial metrics for the segment and manage to these. These metrics should include, but are not limited to, sales growth and margin growth
  • Empower commercial team to accelerate opportunity identification and close process
  • Drive Brand Development and recognition in key regions and sub-segments
  • Grow market share in key geographies and sub-segments
  • Establish and mange innovation pipeline to drive differentiation in the marketplace
  • Develop, coach, and manage talent
  • Stay within budget and timelines in achieving the above results.

Strategic Plan

Build and refine the segment strategy at the sub-segment level, in each region each year. The strategy should include:

  • Strong fact base, quantifying key dimensions of the segment;
  • Leading and lagging economic indicators for the segment;
  • Quantified assessment of sub-segment attractiveness in each relevant geography;
  • Competitive intelligence;
  • Identify and quantify the impact of disruptors and accelerators in the segment;
  • Quantified assessment of our probability of success in each sub-segment in each relevant geography;
  • Internal value chain assessment;
  • Defined business model and channel strategy;
  • Segment industry value chain overview.
  • Segment strategy that drives differentiation and sustainable competitive advantage;
  • Actionable growth plan including both external market actions and internal investments;
  • Financial plan quantifying the net benefit of these market actions and internal investments.

The strategy should include an assessment of adjacent markets and technologies, new geographies. The growth plan should consider both organic and inorganic growth.

Strategy Execution / Growth Plan

Execute the strategy to achieve the financial growth plans. This should include:

  • Aligning all internal stakeholders around segment growth plans
  • Maintaining contact with key customers in all regions to gain market insight and deeper customer understanding
  • Maintaining contact with key suppliers or co-suppliers in the industry to understand their capabilities and innovations to better serve the segment
  • Active involvement in industry associations to represent Sherwin-Williams as a global coatings leader
  • Supporting sales in positioning appropriate product offerings for target customer segments
  • Identify and establish relationships with key industry influencers and brand owners

Global Business Development

  • Support the GI Sales/commercial organization at the strategic as well as tactical account level through targeting, lead generation, sales tool development, pricing guidance, and collaborative selling
  • Drive digital demand generation in cooperation with regional sales and communication resources
  • Support development of value proposition proposals and presentations
  • Provide competitive intelligence and positioning
  • Drive specification of Sherwin-Williams products
  • Coordinate the activities of the Industry Managers and Market Development Managers, as available, in the execution of the marketing strategy
  • Maintain direct contact with key customers in the global Industry Maintain direct contact with key suppliers in the industry, such as application equipment providers, to stay on top of evolving trends
  • Be actively involved in industry associations

Product Development & Commercialization

  • Support Product Management in prioritizing segment-specific Lab Work Requests (LWRs)
  • Develop a robust innovation/product development roadmap, including an active ideas pipeline. This roadmap should ensure market share and profit expansion. Collaborate with Product Management on roadmap execution
  • Responsible and Accountable for Stage Gate Phase 1 Opportunity Identification, including a full business case with clear product positioning and value propositions as well as a detailed financial pro forma including volume targets and pricing guidance
  • Responsible to contribute as a project team member to Phases 2 through 5 by to advancing commercial data and refining the value proposition and financial assessments
  • Own the planning and execution of all product launch activities
Communications
  • Media planning & execution (earned and paid media strategy)
  • Marketing communication plan development in conjunction with communications organization.
  • Event (trade show) planning and execution
  • Support delivery of market and product training globally
  • Create effective sales and marketing tools, collateral, and events
  • Work with technical counterparts to direct and/or author papers for presentation at industry conferences, or for publication in industry trades

Leadership

  • Work cooperatively with Management in all Global locations
  • Effective talent management, development, and succession planning
  • Manage limited resources in pursuit of the highest return on investment (ROI) in the focused segment
  • Overcome internal barriers in achieving objectives
  • Interact with Technical, Sales, Manufacturing, Human Resources and Finance Directors
  • Track and report Focus Market-based results and activities

  • Previous sales or marketing B2B experience.
