Gravel Pit Laborer

Hillside Gravel is a local sand and gravel producer who is seeking applicants to work in our Gravel Pit Area for the upcoming 2023 season.

POSITION SUMMARY

The laborer will assist with production, perform general labor tasks, maintain plant housekeeping, assist with routine maintenance on plant and equipment and provide assistance in all areas of the plant as needed.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

These duties include primarily shoveling spillage areas, may also include lubricating machinery, monitor the plant conveyors, shakers, crushers, feeders.

Maintains yard and equipment

Assists with other maintenance as needed

Follow all safety and environmental rules, regulations and procedures as set forth by company policies, MSHA,and other regulators

Assist with operation of other equipment, such as skid steer and water truck, and more, as needed

Perform duties with minimum supervision

Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Stable work history

Plant experience a plus

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be able to work 8-10 hour shifts, with occassional Saturday and overtime

Must be able to read equipment operating manual

Must be able to wear all required safety equipment

Must be able to communicate effectively with coworkers regarding movement of vehicles and mobile equipment

Must be service oriented with proven ability to work in a TEAM environment

Must be able to follow instructions as well as make some independent decisions

Must be able to perform duties in a safe and environmentally responsible manner

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job requires the ability to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes
Must be able to climb stairs and ladders on a repetitive basis as needed
Must be able to use tools such as brooms/mops, shovels, and similar to perform duties
Must be able to stoop, bend and lift 100 lbs. from ground to waist level on a repetitive basis
Must work outside in all weather conditions consistent with extreme ambient temperatures: heat, cold, wetness, dryness, dust, and noisy conditions
Must have good hand/eye coordination and be able to operate hand/foot controls
Must be able to climb on and off equipment to operate and service as needed
Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel in limited space in cab of vehicle as needed

Ability to operate various equipment (ie: excavator, tractor, bobcat and more)

Reliable transportation to and from work

WORKING CONDITIONS

There will be times when outside assignments may require periods of work in all weather conditions-heat, cold, wet or dry and dusty.
