JOB SUMMARY:
The Hamilton Community School District is seeking individuals to serve the district in the role of Virtual Student Mentor.
Location: Hamilton Middle School
Reports to: Virtual School Principal
Job Description:
Mentors play a crucial role in student success. The mentor position will be responsible for:
- Conducting and documenting weekly two-way communication with students
- Navigating various online courses in Canvas, Michigan Virtual, RosettaStone, Edmentum, Edgenuity, Calvert, etc.
- Documenting attendance and student progress
- Ensuring pupils have access to appropriate technology
- Facilitating access to district teachers of record for courses
- Managing crucial student count day communications, compliance, and documentation
- Assisting with record keeping
- Verifying student schedules
- Providing troubleshooting assistance for online student
- Monitoring student attendance and progress
- Working with students/parents to develop a plan to get back on target for students falling behind
- Completing Canvas Mentoring class and ongoing professional development
- Assuming other duties as assigned by the director or his/her designee
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong computer literacy with operational knowledge of Web-based technologies
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and school community
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work with all K-12 students and their parents/guardians
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Comply with any and all directives pertaining to job performance and duties
- Attend meetings and training as required
Hours: Currently, no more than 29 hours/week or set schedule based on availability
The position schedule will follow the Hamilton Community Schools school calendar.
Start Date: August 22, 2022
Rate of Pay: $12.50 / hour (base)
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have a college degree; or
- Completed 60 college credit hours; or
- Successful completion of the WorkKeys skills tests in the areas of math, reading for information, and writing (The WorkKeys tests are available through West Michigan Works Office).
Preferred Qualifications: Previous work experience with K-12 students, including students with special needs; experience with Acadience and other phonics-based reading programs.
