Philo is recruiting a strategic Head of Product Strategy to build and lead a world-class innovation and product management team responsible for leading the earliest ideation, validation, and product definition efforts within the Philo venture studio, as well as supporting our portfolio companies in their ongoing product management efforts. This will be an exciting and dynamic role, key to the success of the studio and its portfolio companies, with the opportunity for significant personal upside associated with portfolio company success.

The Role:

This role is a strategic early hire for Philo, intended to accelerate the studio's pace of product ideation and launch. The Head of Product & Innovation will provide technical leadership to both Philo and its portfolio companies, with oversight of junior product, strategy, and design resources, critical input into portfolio company strategy, and the responsibility for bringing product innovation and best practices into all that we do. Core responsibilities include ownership of a high-paced and lean product validation process and ongoing support of portfolio companies in their early product development and launch efforts. In addition to a track record of defining excellent user-centric products from the ground up, the successful candidate will have a passion for creating value through entrepreneurial efforts, creative problem solving, strategic thinking extending beyond the traditional limits of the product management purview, and effectively communicating strategy to influence executive decision making.

Responsibilities:

• Build and lead a high-caliber product team, capable of leading the new concept discovery and validation efforts core to the studio platform
• Act as a strategic partner and advisor to both studio and portfolio company leadership, creating value wherever and however possible
• Support studio efforts to continually improve internal activities and processes, facilitating efficient product ideation, validation, launch, and growth
• Lead problem and solution validation, user discovery, market research, and related efforts in support of new opportunity evaluation
• Partner with project leads and founders-in-residence to define and own product vision and roadmaps
• Partner with design and engineering teams to ensure successful and timely delivery of products
• Advise portfolio company founders-in-residence in owning and executing on their product strategy
• Support portfolio company product team buildout when the timing is right
• Help shape the strategic direction of the venture studio model
• Provide technical and career mentorship for team members
• Actively contribute to new business ideation and development

Required Qualifications & Capabilities:

• Passion for 0 to 1 product development and excitement for the opportunity to work with several new businesses in diverse industries at any given time
• Meaningful product management experience in an early-stage environment, with additional experience in growth and later-stage environments a plus
• Ability to appropriately utilize the various concept validation methods, e.g., smoke tests, concierge tests, flinstoning, etc.
• Proven ability to develop and lead an exceptional product team
• Understanding of product management best practices, and the ability to implement and scale such, appropriate to the needs of early and growth-stage entities
• Experience delivering user-centric products facilitating diverse customer use cases
• Experience with and passion for effective team building and mentorship
• Exceptional communication, presentation, organization, and analytical skills
• Bias for action and comfort with a fast-paced startup environment

Nice to Haves:

• 0 to 1 startup experience, e.g., as founder, co-founder, or early hire
• Familiarity with venture capital investment principals and strategy
• Undergrad and graduate degrees from top universities in strategy, product management, entrepreneurship, computer science, or a related field
• Advanced analytical capabilities

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $160,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
