WHAT YOU WILL DO:

The Health & Safety Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the PSSI safety culture and expectations are adhered to at the Safe Foods Chemical Innovations (SFCI). This will be accomplished through reporting, monitoring, training, coaching and holding team members accountable. This position will be responsible for creating relationships and synergies among all SFCI, PSSI Operations and PSSI supporting services to ensure safety is the number one value among our teams.

The duties of the Safe Foods Chemical Innovations (SFCI) Health & Safety Specialist require an individual to be strong on documentation, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Partnership with SFCI Operations leadership to help drive safety excellence among their teams.
  • Support PSSI Safety programs throughout the PSSI organization.
  • Champion strategic safety initiatives within their division.
  • Maintain open communications with PSSI Safety VP and SFCI leadership regarding issues related to Safety, Health, and Environmental.
  • Work closely with PSSI Safety Team on a regular basis including weekly conference calls and team meetings.
  • Ensure SFCI Operations comply with all safety related requirements from external customers, governmental agencies, and established PSSI policies and procedures.
  • Performs incident investigations at the plant level as needed. This includes but is not limited to severe injuries, OSHA complaints, and when necessary to assist other PSSI departments. Ensures that all investigations are documented with and an action plan and that the action plan is successfully implemented.
  • Uses the Root Cause Investigation (RCI) process defined by the Company for all investigations.
  • Attends and manages all OSHA visits pertaining to SFCI business scope as needed. This includes site visits, complaints, and assisting the PSSI Senior Compliance Officer with informal conferences as needed.
  • Interfaces with local, state, and federal agencies on all Health and Safety issues
  • Implements and maintains safety policies and procedures.
  • Support each SFCI Team Member with their individual needs making specific action plans to solve identified plant level issues.
  • Assist PSSI Safety Team as necessary.

YOUR MUST HAVES:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety related field or equivalent job experience.

WHAT WE PREFER YOU HAVE:

  • Certificate to perform fit testing for full face respirators
  • Certificate to train and test others on forklift certifications
  • Certified to issue safe work and confined spaces permits
  • Experience with wastewater testing

OUR ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the functions of this job, the employee works in a combination of a quiet office environment and a manufacturing environment where they can be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; and occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is varies between quiet and loud.
