Department Summary

This Health Business Specialist position will be located within the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) and assigned to the Correctional Medicine Department (CMD). This position will report to the Director of Business Operations with additional collaboration with the CMD Executive Director of Clinical Operations, CMD Financial Operations Manager, CMD Assoc Vice President, and CMD Medical Director.

Position Overview

Major responsibilities of the Health Business Specialist position shall include, but not be limited to, ensure accurate and timely pricing, charge entry, and invoicing of contract services provided under UNTHSC’s Comprehensive Medical Services contracts with the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) and other departmental contracts and agreements.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or any equivalent combination of education or experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge and experience in Medicare payment methodologies with emphasis on medical coding, modifiers, and other industry standard practices for Inpatient, Outpatient, and professional fee schedules.

Demonstrated experience in working with correctional health care services contracts.

Demonstrated capability in utilizing NextGen Enterprise Practice Management software applications.

Required License / Registration / Certification

Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm

Job Duties

Responsible for pricing, charge entry, and invoicing functions of the BOP while working under the direct supervision of CMD Director of Business Operations.

Review and prepare medical claims and provider invoices for entry into UNTHSC’s medical billing system, currently NextGen Enterprise Practice Management System (EPM).

Research and verify medical coding to ensure accuracy of all medical charges consistent with the level of service, Medicare guidelines, and CMD contract terms and conditions.

Communicate effectively with CMD and BOP staff, Correctional Network providers and facilities, and/or third party claims adjudicator concerning invoicing or payment problems related to CMD assigned contracts.

Develop and maintain reporting tools for tracking and reconciling delinquent accounts and work with internal and external providers to obtain needed claims in a timely manner.

Assist with special projects related to CMD assigned contracts, including, but not limited to, electronic claims and payment processing, appeal submissions, contract operations, contract proposal research and contract proposal development.
