HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR – LANDFILL

JOB DESCRIPTION: Performance in the operation of light, medium and heavy-duty vehicular equipment, maintenance and construction productively. Employees in this class report to the immediate supervisor, if not available report to the Public Works Director. Work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient, and productive operation of heavy equipment. Tasks performed include: (1) operates a motor grader, bulldozer, and front-end loader in excavating earth for roads or other maintenance and repair activities; (3) operates a twenty-three yard scraper; (4) digs cells as needed; (5) cleans and performs minor maintenance on equipment; (6) reports equipment malfunctions; (7) operates other types of equipment and performs manual labor; (8) keeps records and logs of time, material and equipment; (9) prepares routine reports; (10) cross train with other departments; (11) follows proper safety guidelines; (12) will agree to provide backup services to all departments when emergencies arise; (13) performs other tasks as assigned.

Desirable Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

1. EDUCATION: Solid Waste A and B Certification may be obtained

2. EXPERIENCE: Operation and servicing of light, medium and heavy-duty equipment, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

3. KNOWLEDGE: Operating characteristics and servicing of one or more types of heavy automotive and related equipment. Maintenance and operation of construction equipment including medium and heavy equipment. Work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned equipment and operations. Traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involved in the operation of assigned equipment.

4. SKILLS: Operation and servicing of heavy-duty automotive equipment and operate motor grader/roller to finish grade if assigned to that equipment. Possession of valid Texas drivers license.

5. ABILITY: Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Make operating adjustments and to recognize operating deficiencies in assigned equipment. Lift 100 pounds and climb on equipment without assistance. Make decisions as needed where safety is concerned in solid waste disposal. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and City Officials.

Minimum Expectations: Good attendance, working assigned schedule, compliance with timekeeping requirements, ability to stay on task and work well with others, follow all policies and procedures of The City of Snyder.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.24 - $21.88 per hour
