What You’ll Do: Responsible for the profitable, productive, and safe operation of the personnel and equipment necessary to service the day-to-day activities of collection and disposal operations. Manages supervisors and dispatchers to oversee Himco commercial, roll-off, and compaction operations. Maintains a positive work environment, ensuring compliance with safety, DOT standards, and established policies and procedures. ·
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promotes accident prevention practices and safe working habits; stresses a safe work environment.
- Trains employees to follow established policies, meet company standards, and to represent the company in a positive way. Provides ongoing and, if needed, repeated training.
- Hires, evaluates performance and, when necessary, disciplines and discharges. Provides appropriate level of supervision to assigned personnel.
- Works with various affected individuals to ensure the most effective solutions are developed when problems arise.
- Works closely with other operations managers to formulate and revise policies and procedures concerning hauling operations and maintains responsibility for adherence to these policies.
- Monitors and controls costs within the scope of assigned responsibilities.
- Makes cost containment recommendations regarding equipment and purchase needs. Interacts regularly with General Operations Manager to consider improvements to hauling operations and to plan future growth and needs.
- Investigates accidents and completes required paperwork on incidents.
- Performs all functions in accordance with the "Yes I Can" philosophy
- Provides support, backup, and training, and performs work of other positions, as qualified, when needed.
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
Marginal Functions:
- Maintains special records for required state and federal reports.
- Keeps informed on changes to laws and regulations affecting the trucking industry.
- Cleans and participates in upkeep of general office space.
Supervision Received:
Works with minimal supervision. Uses own judgment to plan work, makes own decisions regarding appropriate methods to use and works largely independently following general policies, procedures and guidelines.
Supervision Exercised:
- Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains departmental and supervisory staff
- Oversees and provides guidance to the Customer Support Supervisor regarding daily workflow and scheduling of staff in the customer support department
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations
- Handles progressive discipline as necessary
- Two to four years related supervisory experience or equivalent.
- High school diploma; College courses in management or relevant discipline desired.
- Demonstrated proficiency in supervising and motivating subordinates
- Proficient on Microsoft office programs (Word, Excel, Etc.)
- Commitment to excellence and high standards
- Strong competence in subordinates’ duties and tasks
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, Bilingual skills a plus.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Ability to manage priorities and workflow
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees, with proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse group of individuals from various backgrounds at all organizational levels.
- Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
- Ability to understand any and all safety requirements and cautions
- Ability to perform the physical labor necessary
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Frequently required to walk, stand and sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl
- Continually utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and/or use a keyboard
- Required to lift/push/carry items less than 25 pounds up to 75 pounds
- Frequently work near moving mechanical parts
- Frequently work around fumes or airborne particles (Dusty environments)
- Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions
- Frequently exposed to loud noise(examples: metal can manufacturing, large earth-moving equipment)
