Overview

The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis is a leader in providing economic data and information to the public. A major focus of this work is banking, economic and financial history with a special focus on the history of the Federal Reserve System. The St. Louis Fed is responsible for FederalReserveHistory.org, FRASER, and FedPreserve and this position will manage these products.

The Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis is looking for an energetic team builder with technical skills and vision to oversee the work of our historical projects including FRASER, the Federal Reserve History website, and Fed Preserve. These projects all share a common goal of collecting, organizing, and providing access to historical economic and financial information, with an emphasis on the Federal Reserve’s history. The Historical Digital Projects team has a staff of 5 full-time positions and includes several channels for promotion and engagement. This position reports to the Group Vice President and Director of Library and Research Information Services. The work for the 3 main areas is described below.
Responsibilities
  • FRASER:
    https://fraser.stlouisfed.org
    . This digital library of historical U.S. economic, financial and banking materials contains publications, statistical releases, and archival material from the Federal Reserve, U.S. government agencies, and leading economic policymakers. This position will continue to build FRASER by improving content, access, and delivery to enhance digital scholarship. The goal is to develop FRASER to be the single most important resource for historical materials in the fields of economics, finance, and banking.

    This website serves as a gateway to the history of the Federal Reserve for educators, students, and the general public. The purpose of this site is to help demystify the Fed and its role in the economy, and to explain how the Fed and its mission have evolved over its more than 100-year history.
  • FedPreserve is an internal digital preservation tool and part of the Fed History Vision program to identify, preserve, and provide appropriate access to historically important materials.

Overall, the goal is to
  • Set the strategic direction and priorities for our historical tools, including the addition of content and promotion of these tools.
  • Coordinate staff and content work to maximize the use and value of the historical materials
  • Manage a high performing team to further the goals
  • Create and maintain internal and external partnerships
  • Give presentations on the use and value of the historical tools to a wide variety of audiences
  • Collaborate with St. Louis Fed Economic Education and FRED data services to support our educational goals

Qualifications:
  • Masters of Library Science or Information Science or commensurate related work experience and education
  • 5 years related experience, with 2 years supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated leadership
  • Creative approaches to problem solving
  • Planning, coordination, and execution of successful collaborative projects
  • Familiarity with digital libraries and their role in the educational and instructional landscape
  • Knowledge of digitization best practices, standards, preservation, and metadata
  • Ability to create professional presentations and training for internal and professional groups
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Interest in and understanding of economics, finance, banking, and policy making helpful
    Experience with project planning and management, ideally within an Agile project management framework helpful
    Experience with special collections and archives, including digital archives helpful
  • Occasional travel

Salary: $96,000 - $112,000
