Home Medical Equipment Specialist / Orthopedic Fitter
Job description
JOB SUMMARY:
- Responsible for daily interaction in a professional manner with internal, external customers, physicians and clinical staff.
- Provide orthopedic bracing to patients, must have strong knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology, in addition to expertise in the different materials and equipment involved in splinting and bracing patients.
- Coordinate client information accurately and completely and providing patient education with hand out material or return demonstration regarding brace that is needed.
- Required documentation in software and the ability to verify insurance.
- Assists physicians with patient care and flow during office hours; properly fits and applies pre-operative braces, crutches, and other soft goods; prepares and applies casts and orthopedic durable medical equipment; changes dressings; removes sutures, casts and splints.
- Educate patients on insurance plans and provisions, financial responsibility and collection of patient portion.
- Responsible for recording the details in the patient’s medical record as well as completing all the necessary documentation for the billing department to submit the DME claim to the patient’s insurance carrier.
- Remains current with orthopedic trends, care and supplies.
- Other duties as assigned by manager to meet the DME and Ortho Tech goals.
- Associate will be cross trained in the Home Medical Equipment retail storefront.
- Understanding of HME product and supplies is needed to provide service to customers and patients in community.
- All other tasks assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Product and equipment knowledge necessary to communicate effectively with patients, customers and clinical staff.
- Maintain orthopedic supply inventory effectively and accurately.
- Deliver outstanding customer service to patients, physicians and staff.
- Responsible for patient orthopedic brace/splinting need, along with the required documentation for reimbursement.
- Must be able to travel to multiple sites.
- The knowledge of work processing, spreadsheets and databases. Strong interpersonal/soft skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Attentiveness to detail.
- Ability to prioritize responsibilities.

Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Previous experience with healthcare and home medical equipment preferred.
- Mandatory Annual Continuing Education: Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Confidentiality-HIPAA, Infection Control, Corporate Compliance.
- Annual Unit Specific Competencies, and all education required by regulatory, accreditation bodies and/or Hancock Regional Hospital.
