Job Summary

Perform non-direct nursing services and activities to residents to enhance the quality of life and services provided.
Reports To: Director of Nursing
Full Time & Part Time status required to work every other weekend

Major Responsibilities, Duties, Functions, and Tasks of the Position

  • Answers resident call bells and assist with non-direct care needs as able. Communicate resident direct care needs to nursing assistant staff for follow up as needed
  • Assist with passing water and ice to residents
  • As requested or needed by a resident read mail and write letters
  • Assist in resident room organization of closets and drawers as well as replacing personal supplies as needed
  • Restock care supplies on the unit as requested
  • Transport residents to and from the dining room, activities, beauty shop, therapy, etc. Make sure resident is safe in the environment before leaving
  • Assist in providing activity programming and special events as directed by the supervisor
  • Communicate with supervisor concerning resident conditions, requests and or interests
  • Assist with serving and removing meal trays, including set up of residents as needed. Document consumption of meal in Matrix
  • Upon successful completion of the Feeding Assistant Program assist residents with meals as needed and directed by the supervisor
  • Ensure residents have access to call bell when in their room both in and out of bed
  • Distribute personal laundry and facility laundry following infection control practices as needed
  • Provide Nail care to residents as requested
  • Label resident clothing as requested
  • Make resident beds as requested
  • May be asked to assist in quality assurance auditing for the following areas:
    • Care of eyeglasses and hearing aides
    • Application of geri sleeves and derma savers
    • Application of heel protectors
    • Review of assistive devices canes, walkers, wheelchairs, broad chairs, etc.
    • Review of cleanliness of resident devices and or chairs
    • Other care areas as defined in the residents care plan
  • Demonstrate understanding of how to work with residents with special needs and or who require oxygen, IV therapy, tube fed residents and after life care
  • Demonstrate understanding of resident rights and preservation of dignity: Knocking on resident room doors prior to entering, identifying who you are prior to entering the room, keeping resident information confidential, explaining tasks prior to care, promptly answering call bells, etc.
  • Maintain annual and ongoing educational needs as outlined by the facility.
  • Standard Job Duties:
  • Immediately report resident related care concerns about treatment or abuse to the Department Supervisor as well as the Executive Director of the facility
  • Interact with Team Members, Residents, and Guests in a courteous and professional manner
  • Be accountable for all information in the Team Member Handbook
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident, Team Member, family and facility information
  • Understand and upholds Resident Rights
  • Follow each Residents Plan of Care
  • Follow oral and written instructions for all duties assigned and performed in an effective, timely and professional manner
  • Complete assigned tasks in accordance with organization, facility, and department procedures
  • Demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Use supplies in an efficient and cost effective manner
  • Ensure equipment is treated with proper care and is used only for the purposes and in accordance for which it was designed to be used for
  • Follow facility reporting guidelines for any equipment that is not functioning properly or is need of repair
  • Use Infection control practices, including Standard Precautions, to prevent the spread of diseases
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance tasks, as directed
  • Complete all documentation per facility protocol and Standards of Practice
  • Follow all IT protocols, including submission of Sysaids, for all technology related issues
  • Answer call bells and assist as able

  • Work Orientation: Ensures that work activities are completed thoroughly, accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner ensuring quality standards are met. This includes taking the initiative to complete job tasks; working without close supervision; being committed, reliable, trusted, and accountable for completing work activities; regularly and dependably being at work on time (i.e. good punctuality); and willingness to accept schedule changes or work additional hours as required by the company.
  • Company Representation: Supports the reputation of the company and its services. This involves not tarnishing the image of the company during all written and oral communications with residents, families and friends of residents, suppliers, medical facilities, and members of the surrounding communities. This includes discussing company or departmental issues or problems in appropriate areas only with appropriate personnel.
  • Safety: Follows Company policies, procedures, and practices related to safe work practices. This includes being knowledgeable about facility and industry standards, using all safety equipment provided, recommending safety equipment not currently in use that could prevent future injury, and being alert and aware of potential safety hazards at all times.
