About the Role:
We are looking for a Full-Time Human Resources Generalist

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for creating and maintaining the culture of Bank of the San Juans while performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with the HR Manager. Assumes responsibility for the effective performance of various human resource functions, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, compensation, employee relations, training, payroll functions, and for insuring division wide compliance with EEO, ADA, FMLA, and other governmental regulations. Ensures Human Resource activities are conducted in accordance with established company policies and procedures. Support the VP Human Resources Manager to meet the division’s challenge to become the employer of choice in each of its market areas.

The starting pay for this position is $23.00 per hour. All compensation offers are analyzed individually and take into consideration multiple factors including but not limited to geographic location, years of experience, and educational background.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for effective and efficient implementation of human resource functions.
  • Monitor and respond to HR email inbox inquiries.
  • Provide content for monthly newsletter and weekly HR email.
  • Process employment verifications.
  • Conducts exit interviews and responds to unemployment claims.
  • Ensures accurate, updated personnel information is available to other departments and to organizations as required.
  • Process leave requests, work with Unum and GBCI HR as necessary (I.e. FMLA, military, vacation, sick personal), track status, paid time and benefit deductions.
  • Processes work comp claims and supports GBCI Wellness and Safety Coordinator as needed throughout the claim.
  • Participates in regular meetings with the GBCI Human Resource Group.
  • Participates in GBCI Safety committee and coordinates local safety program.
  • Coordinates Bank wellness activities in conjunction with GBCI Wellness and Safety Coordinator and serves on Corporate Wellness Committee representing the Bank.
  • Serves as a liaison with GBCI HR, corresponding between managers and employees and GBCI.
  • Consults with and advises employees on their eligibility for benefits. Assures compliance with all legal requirements of HR programs and ensures reports are made as required.
  • Responsible for the recruitment efforts at BSJ under the guidance of the HR Manager. Effectively reviews applications, conducts pre-screening interviews, and communicates with the hiring-manager and the candidate throughout the process. Responsible for following AAP guidelines and communicating such guidelines to managers. Responsible for ensuring all steps are completed before offer is made to candidate. Makes recommendations to managers and assists with interviewing as needed.
    • Sends offer letters, offer packets, ensures onboarding and new hire checklists are completed and completes new hire files. Conducts reference checks.
    • Ensures new hire files are accurate, complete and in compliance. Assists with payroll as needed and is responsible for ensuring employee files are properly maintained and updated.
    • Trains employees on payroll, time and attendance, onboarding, and recruitment best practices as well as other HR related topics.
    • Onboard new employees. Maintain employee records and changes in HRIS systems, Process employee termination activities.
  • Assist in ensuring biweekly time reporting is accurate. Prepare and submit payroll exceptions, bonuses, and deduction changes in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Answer or refer personnel related questions and inquiries to HR Manager. Supports managers and employees with their needs.

  • Participates in employee engagement efforts and assists HR Manager with these efforts.

  • Prepares Turnover report, conducts payroll audits and is responsible for maintaining the Bank’s job descriptions. Responsible for ensuring compliance with handbook acknowledgement, open enrollment, ergonomic assessments, etc.

  • Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency and legendary service of the department. Assist in project work in the area employment, employee communications, employee events, benefits, and salary administration.

  • Assist the HR Manager in administering NMLS process for designated employees in compliance with S.A.F.E Act, policies, and procedures. Perform secondary market screening for GSA, LDP, and OFAC.

  • Works closely with the HR Manager in project work in the area of employment, employee, communications, employee events, benefits and salary administration.

  • Ensure company compliance with FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, FMLA, FLSA and other federal, state, and local laws.

  • Maintain current knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and affirmative action guidelines and laws and stays informed of trends and changes in the human resource field. Attends seminars and professional conferences.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

  • Keeps management appropriately informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
  • Participate in Community Service and Bank sponsored activities that serve and support the mission and values of the Bank of the San Juans.
  • Provide superior internal and external customer service: must demonstrate self-governance, courtesy and respect toward external customers as well as internal customers (all organization personnel).
  • Complete required bank and BVS training courses within assigned time frame(s).
  • Represent Bank of the San Juans in a professional manner which includes a professional image, confidentiality, a positive “can-do” attitude, good attendance, punctuality, flexibility and adaptability in meeting bank and customer needs. Keep work area tidy and maintain customer privacy. Attends and participates in meetings as required.
About You:
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A high school degree or GED is required.
  • Associates degree in Human Resources, Business, or other related field is preferred.
  • 2-5 years of HR related experience or related experience, including time spent in preparatory positons.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, ABILITY:
  • Knowledge of human resource laws and regulations.
  • Understanding of compensation and benefits policies and programs, employee relations practices, and recruitment techniques.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people both verbally and in writing (listens and understands problems and assist staff at all levels as needed).
  • Solid interpersonal and supervisory abilities.
  • Effective project management abilities.
  • Thorough knowledge of various office software, including advanced proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize, have strong attention to detail and execute tasks in a fast-paced-pressure environment.
  • Able to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Have the ability to give balance between the employee and the company while protecting the Bank from liability.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and provide excellent customer service.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level.

Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation/inspection of machines and/or using measurement devices at distances close to the eyes.
