The HR Generalist serves as a key member of the People Team and a trusted business partner to Surf Ranch Lemoore, our flagship property and premiere surf experience venue. This role will be responsible for building trust and strong relationships with employees across the business, as well as the day-to-day delivery and execution of HR practices, policies and procedures for Surf Ranch Lemoore, reporting directly into the Chief People Officer of the World Surf League. Key focus areas include Employee Relations, Recruiting, Retention, Performance Management, Compliance, Leadership Development as well as Learning & Development initiatives. This position is based in Santa Monica, California.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

Employee Relations:

  • Provide guidance and participate in employment issues including employee relations.
  • Provide support to leadership to facilitate the positive resolution of employee situations including performance improvement, disciplinary actions and terminations

Recruiting & Retention:

  • Partner with People Leaders to stay informed of trends and upcoming hiring needs to provide creative recruitment solutions, as well as manage talent reviews and succession planning to meet the needs of the business.
  • Facilitate a world-class candidate experience for Surf Ranch leadership roles, which includes end to end recruitment – from sourcing, pre-screening, interviewing candidates, selecting candidate assessments, to offer and onboarding.
  • Implement initiatives for employee retention, training, and professional learning and development at all levels of the organization.
  • Evaluating current practices for recruitment, onboarding, and retention and making recommendations for improvement.

Performance Management & Compensation:

  • Administer employee compensation including annual salary reviews, merit, bonus, LTIP, compensation adjustments, and performance-based incentives.
  • Support the implementation of people programs (talent reviews, career planning, performance management, etc.) and coach People Leaders in supporting a culture committed to employee engagement, development and growth.

Respectful Workplace & Compliance:

  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.

Leadership Development:

  • Coach, counsel and mentoring People Leaders to help navigate challenging situations and achieve best practice.
  • Coach People Leaders on effective management competencies and skills

General Human Resources:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of Human Resource policies.
  • Partner with the broader WSL HR team on new projects and initiatives.
  • Ability to analyze data from various reports, draw conclusions and make recommendations concerning the effectiveness of solutions
  • Anticipate and plan for long-term needs and trends within the business

Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of Human Resources in the context of a Hospitality venue
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in similar HR role(s)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite, must be comfortable with Excel
  • Strong ability in using Google Suite (Google Sheets, Google Docs and Google Slides, in particular)
  • Capable of conducting analysis of HR metrics and pulling ad hoc reporting as necessary.
  • Experience working within ADP & comfortable owning recruitment (end-to-end)
  • Experience managing employee relations inside medium sized organizations with a significant number of hourly employees.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required

Salary Range: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 based on relevant experience
