The HR Assistant provides administrative assistance to the HR department by completing data entry relative to all employee records, maintaining employee records/files in a very fast paced HR department. Completes employee surveys for new hires, current employees, and terminating employees. Assists in preparing documents and I.D. badges for New Hire Orientation. Welcomes new employees and provides a friendly, courteous, and professional resource to all employees. Manages sensitive and confidential information and situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy at all times and ensures information is kept confidential.

This position will operate out of Goodwill's Home Office, located at 1235 S. Eugene St., Greensboro, NC. Some occasional travel may be required throughout our five-county territory, including Guilford, Alamance, Randolph, Rockingham, and Caswell Counties.**

Essential Functions
To be successful, the HR Assistant must have fast and accurate data entry skills, be extremely detail oriented, organized, and able to multi-task. Responsibilities and activities include:

  • Serves in a key role within the HR Department for GICNC ensuring accurate and timely data entry (processing new hires, performance reviews, address and status changes, terminations, and other employee information) into various computer systems.
  • Completes all employee surveys in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Serves as a role model and provides all employees with a courteous, professional, ethical, confidential, and friendly resource for all HR related matters.
  • Establishes and maintains HR records in an accurate, compliant, and confidential manner. Assists in performing regular audits to ensure records are compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Provides back-up recruiting assistance for the HR department including posting openings, conducting reference checks, requesting criminal background checks, transcripts, and drug tests, updating applicant tracking systems, and keeping applicants updated via return phone calls, emails, and texts. May assist with job fairs by ensuring adequate supply of recruiting materials and information is available.
  • Assists with New Hire Orientation and welcomes new employees in a warm and friendly manner. Ensures forms and orientation information is ready in advance of orientation. Primary role for completing new hire keying, and ensuring that all documentation is valid, completed, and uploaded accurately in all systems (E-Verify, NC New Hire, HRIS, etc.). Prepares I.D. badges for all new employees and when title changes occur.
  • Completes reports, verification of employment requests, and other HR related correspondence as needed. Provides back-up administrative assistance related to leaves of absence and employee benefits.
  • Works collaboratively and as a team player with other members of the HR team and employees in other departments.
  • Provides back up for front desk receptionist as needed.

Requirements

  • An Associate's degree is required with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration or Human Resources preferred. A combination of related administrative experience and/or college level coursework may be considered in lieu of an Associate's degree.
  • Minimum 2-years' experience in a very fast paced office environment is required with prior HR Assistant experience strongly preferred. Must demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, including a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Must have excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Must be exceptionally well organized, able to handle multiple priorities, and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Must have a good command of written and spoken English, including good grammar, is required (Bi-lingual in Spanish is strongly preferred).
  • Requires ability to lift 25 lbs. maximum. Also requires ability to sit most of the time, but also requires standing and walking when at stores, career center, events, and in offsite locations.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, honesty, intellectual curiosity, and a standard of excellence is required.
  • Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development is required.
  • Valid NC driver's license with good driving record, reliable vehicle, proof of personal vehicle insurance coverage, and able to travel within GICNC's 5 county territory.

Hours: Position is hourly. Work is generally conducted Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-4:30 pm.**

Salary & Benefits: Hourly position paying approximately $38,000 to $40,000 annualized DOE. Benefits include 3 medical insurance plans, dental insurance, vision insurance, company paid life insurance, short- and long-term disability, long term care plan, 401k plan, and $4,000 per year educational assistance plan. We also offer numerous supplemental benefit plans such as extra life insurance, critical incident, cancer, identity theft, and legal assistance coverage as well as a pet insurance discount plan.
