CASA & CASA IN ACTION SYNOPSIS:

Although CASA and CASA in Action share a common goal of supporting immigrants and low-income people in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Virginia, and nationally, they are separate organizations with their own board of directors. A set of employees at the two organizations, including the person filling this position, shares their time between the two organizations. This has no effect on salary or benefits


DEPARTMENT SYNOPSIS:


The Health and Human Services Department responds to the needs of low-income immigrants and their families, utilizing service provision models that promote building the power of the immigrant community. This includes community education to prevent problems and build on community interest and assets, and working to impact trends that negatively affect low-income Latinos and other immigrants. The Health and Human Services Department includes Health Promotion and Community Access, Legal, and Immigrant Integration programs.


POSITION SUMMARY:


The Immigrant Integration Services Coordinator is responsible for coordinating CASA’s Citizenship Maryland Program, AmeriCorps Program, Financial Education Program, Tax Preparation, and Citizenship Class instruction. Coordination includes training AmeriCorps members and volunteers on citizenship, financial education, and taxes, allocate and review case load for each of them, schedule citizenship classes for CASA members, schedule citizenship clinics, and ensure CASA members and taxpayers receive a great service.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate AmeriCorps members, ensuring they develop proper skills to deliver services and attend office to provide services
  • Perfoquality review to citizenship and other applications prepared by AmeriCorps members
  • Coordinate the team of VITA Sit Coordinators to ensure a successful Tax Season
  • Receive membership- and services- fee payments.
  • Ensure data collection and recording in salesforce, as required by donors and specified in internal policies and procedures
  • Develop volunteer opportunities, recruit, and train volunteers as well as pro-bono attorneys to support daily tasks and citizenship clinic events or other related activities
  • Support Program Manager on maintaining partnership with key stakeholders and developing new ones.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned


EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS,

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1 year of experience preparing and/or reviewing citizenship applications (N-400 USCIS form) and green card renewals (I-90 USCIS Form); Preparing tax returns or volunteering at a VITA Site; providing direct services to multicultural public


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Excellent English Writing and Speaking skills.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
  • Commitment to achieve DOJ-BIA accreditation within the first 6 (six) months of service.
  • Ability to maintain a database and high comfort level with computer programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and willingness to learn other needed computer programs.
  • Demonstrated understating of Financial education and the naturalization process
  • Familiarity with AmeriCorps preferred. AmeriCorps Alum is a plus.
  • Highly organized and able to lead multiple ongoing projects.
  • Deep commitment to social change and to growing CASA as a membership organization in which members have decision-making authority.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated success and passion in working with families of different backgrounds, and the immigrant population with limited formal education.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • Must have reliable transportation and valid US driver’s license
  • Tasks may require commuting to the different sites where the Immigration Integration Program delivers services, including but not limited to Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.
