Position Title: Maintenance Worker II

Department: Parks and Recreation

Immediate Supervisor: Parks Superintendent

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for performing manual and semi-skilled work in the cleaning, maintenance, and repair of city parks, city facilities, a 40,000 square foot multi-purpose building with indoor ice arena, and other city properties. Work involves manual labor and the operation of a variety of motorized and power equipment.

Work Schedule:

Full Time-Primarily weekdays, evenings and weekends dependent upon meetings, programs and special events.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver a safe and excellent customer service experience to our resident and park patrons
  • Assist with grounds maintenance projects as needed, to included but not limited to leaf clean-up, seeding and fertilization, irrigation installation, snow and ice removal and tree maintenance.
  • Perform semi-skilled landscaping, tree trimming, brush chipping and grass cutting.
  • Perform semi-skilled plumbing, electrical and masonry work on park facility and equipment.
  • Assist in the implementation of a park and facility maintenance and operation plan.
  • Maintain up to date records and inventory of materials, tools, vehicles and equipment.
  • Assist in the maintenance and operation of athletic courts and fields, tennis center, playgrounds and landscapes.
  • Assist in the removal of snow removal from park roadways and walks; assist with emergency snow removal and city wide storm clean-up when needed.
  • Operate small trucks, tractors, mowers and auxiliary maintenance equipment to perform tasks in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Assist other Parks and Recreation staff when necessary to complete projects, special events, implementation of Parks Master Plan and snow removal.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and practices used in park and vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Skill in the operation of hand and power tolls and some motorized equipment.
  • Ability to learn building maintenance and repair methods.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn safe use of chemicals like herbicides and cleaning solutions.
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, construction and landscaping.
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods under adverse conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions

MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduation from a general or technical high school, or GED
  • Minimum two years experience in the performance of manual labor or semi-skilled maintenance and repair work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Possession of a valid Class A Driver’s License within six months of employment.
  • Certification in American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider and First Aid required within six months of employment.

EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM THE JOB

Mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, tractors, small hand tools, cleaning tools, various motorized vehicles and equipment.
