Job description
Instructional Technologist - Remote
The University of Pittsburgh is seeking an Instructional Technologist for the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS) who will assist in effectively applying technology to enhance teaching and learning. Primary responsibilities include supporting the use of learning management systems and associated technologies, such as: lecture capture, exam proctoring, screen capture, video recording, and other emerging academic technologies. This support takes the form of collaborating with the Instructional Design Team to analyze faculty instructional technology requirements, recommending solutions, and developing support materials as well as direct troubleshooting for faculty, students, and staff. Emphasis will be placed on the collaboration and excellent communication with pedagogy and technology colleagues in the Office of Online Learning (OOL), internal and external partners.
Supplementary high-level duties require familiarity with learning management systems (specifically Canvas) and knowledge of LTI standards for integrations. The ability to build credit bearing and noncredit bearing courses in the LMS is necessary. This will require direct interaction with the learning team and faculty. Additionally, excellent organizational skills are required to track course assets, tool licenses, and file storage.
Other duties include exploring and evaluating promising new teaching and learning technologies. Project management experience managing projects formally or informally will be increasingly important as the hybrid and online continuing education initiatives in SHRS grow.
The strong candidate will have five years of experience providing support technology services in higher education. A bachelor’s degree in the field of Educational Technology, Information Science, or closely related field or compensatory experience is required.
The University of Pittsburgh is committed to championing all aspects of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility within our community. This commitment is a fundamental value of the University and is crucial in helping us advance our mission, which includes attracting and retaining diverse workforces. We will continue to create and maintain an environment that allows individuals to discover, belong, contribute, and grow, while honoring the experiences, perspectives, and unique identities of all.
