Vestolit (formerly Mexichem Specialty Resins, Inc.) is one of the worlds largest manufacturers of specialty vinyl resins for formulating plastisols, organosols, powders and compounds. Vestolit has an immediate opening for an Instrument & Electrical Technician located in Pedricktown, NJ.

The immediate purpose of this position is to provide for the installation, inspection and repair of industrial and laboratory instrumentation and electrical equipment. The Instrument and Electrical group will support the plant’s I&E needs.

Essential Activities:

The essential activities associated with this position are those which will enable the Pedricktown Plant to accomplish its objectives with a high degree of confidence, reliability and operational excellence for the plant process instrumentation and our electrical needs. These essential activities include:

  • Preventive and predictive maintenance and inspection of equipment;
  • Troubleshooting of process systems and equipment and identification of repair needs;
  • Initiate purchase requisitions, work orders, spare parts requests and maintain equipment records;
  • Investigate opportunities to upgrade and improve the efficiency of existing instrumentation;
  • Repair of instrumentation and electrical equipment;
  • Become proficient in programmable controller technology;
  • Field installation of instrumentation and electrical equipment;
  • Testing and calibration of instrument and electrical equipment; and
  • No late TCPA or ISO PMs and provide proper documentation.
  • Maintain appropriate training and certifications.

Other Activities:

This position is also responsible for other activities which support the essential activities and permit our other resources to be used most effectively. These include:

  • Work overtime and emergency call-ins when required;
  • Determining and using the most effective methods to ensure availability of instrumentation and electrical resources to respond to off-shift emergencies

Problem Solving:

The types of problems that are likely to be encountered by this position include:

  • Investigating and troubleshooting a process control instrumentation or electrical problem; and
  • Researching, specifying and purchasing suitable instrument and electrical equipment; i.e. parts for replacement, as well as approved new installations.

Accountability and Decision Making:

Decisions the incumbent has the authority to make:
* Those necessary to execute the repair or replacement of “in-kind” instrument and electrical equipment.

  • Job scheduling in coordination with other I&E personnel, as required.

Decisions or problems referred to supervisor or others:

  • Must obtain appropriate approvals for any process modification, alteration of operating procedures, and any additions or deletions to Engineering stores and purchasing.
  • Those that cannot be resolved by the appropriate team members.

  • Analyze or interpret data;
  • Make recommendations or presentations.

Knowledge and Skills:

The individual in this position must thoroughly understand or be able to quickly learn the suspension manufacturing supply and order fulfillment process along with an understanding of those parts of the process that require special emphasis. Skills that will contribute to superior performance include:

  • Computer hardware/ software skills,
  • Programmable Logic Controllers and Distributed Computer Control Systems, such as Allen-Bradley PLC, Delta V.
  • Variable Frequency Drive installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair.
  • Working knowledge of industrial and laboratory instrument installation, repair, and calibrations.
  • Working knowledge of process instrumentation, such as the following:

o Fluke 789 Process Meter
o Pressure Calibrator
o HART communicator

  • Working knowledge of electrical distribution equipment and motor installation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance.
  • Experience working in industrial hazardous type environment and have knowledge of proper PPE equipment and use for the following conditions:

o Lab Solvents
o Aerial Working-Platform equipment
o General PPE – Safety Glasses, Shoes, Ear plugs
o Equipment Isolation Protocols
o Confined Space Training

  • Lockout/Tagout training - i.e. NFPA 70E and/or OSHA 10 for General Industry

Education:

  • High school Diploma or equivalent GED certification
  • Seven-year total of training and experience. Certification from an accredited school or program is a plus. The following elements may be used to satisfy this requirement:

o Successful completion of an Instrumentation, Electronics or Electrical Program, such as ISA-based training courses or Journeyman Apprenticeship. Must provide documentation of completion.
o Academic Degree in a related technology area, minimum of Two-year curriculum.
o Senior level field experience in an industrial facility environment

Equipment:

This position must have or quickly acquire proficiency with the following equipment:

  • Applicable instrumentation calibration equipment;
  • Applicable instrumentation testing equipment (electric and pneumatic);
  • Shop machining tools, hand power tools, and hand tools;
  • Forklift truck, high reach, motorized cart, pick-up truck;
  • Computer for programming controllers and plant network computer for maintenance, purchasing and communications.
