Job Purpose and Objectives
Provide Intake and Assessment services, which would allow law enforcement to return to street patrol or other duties. Job Competencies
Advise law enforcement of placement options and risk to youth, family, and/or community. Report suspected child abuse. Interview children, youth, and families who are referred to the program by law enforcement. Complete standardized assessment instruments and interpret results accurately. Refer children, youth, and families to community services (i.e., drug and alcohol, mental health, financial assistance, etc.). Advise families on juvenile court process. Resolve family disputes through mediation and/or behavior contracts. Provide follow-up services to families. Arrange for emergency placement. Care for children until placement occurs. Transport children to placement if necessary. Prepare and submit intake forms. Disperse information gathered to the appropriate agencies. Complete urine drug screens, obtain youth fingerprints, and DNA samples. Regular attendance and good punctuality essential. On call hours as assigned. Communicate and work as a team in a professional, respectful, positive and constructive manner. Assist in maintaining facility cleanliness. Attend scheduled meetings and training sessions. Set role model for appropriate behaviors. Work cooperatively with Youth Services staff. Conduct tours or give presentations to inform community of available services. Mediate family disputes so that the youth may return home. Deal effectively with resistive clients. Protects and maintains any confidential information you have access to, whether oral, written, or electronic. Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools and other aids as required or needed. Position Requirements and Qualifications
Position Requirements - Bachelor's degree in social work or related field - or - Associate arts degree plus two (2) years experience with intake and assessment services-or- Four (4) years experience in a youth services setting. Employee is responsible for obtaining and maintaining all certification requirements relative to the position. Skills / Knowledge / Abilities - General knowledge of the juvenile court system, Kansas Statutes, juvenile offenders code, and child in need of care code. Experience in the field is preferred. Ability to de-escalate clients. Mediation skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to make sound decisions quickly. Understand and follow program policies and procedures. Ability to deal in a professional manner with law enforcement, youth services staff, other professionals, children, youth, and families. Must be familiar with computer, Microsoft Office, printer, and copier. Certifications - Licenses - Possess a valid Kansas driver's license. Work Environment and Pre-Employment Screenings
