WAA, a 501(c)3 nonprofit agency, is Philadelphia’s leading domestic violence advocate and service provider and among the largest domestic violence agencies in the country. The mission of WAA is to provide quality, compassionate and nonjudgmental services in a manner that fosters self-respect and independence in persons experiencing intimate partner violence and to lead the struggle to end domestic violence through advocacy and community education. With over 170 staff, WAA serves over 11,000 individuals each year through our direct services, education, advocacy and outreach (2 - 100 bed safe havens, 15 transitional housing apartments, aftercare community-based case management services, legal services, hotline counseling, prevention & education, and advocacy).

Responsibilities:
The Intake Paralegal provides services to an assigned group of clients and assist Women Against Abuse Attorneys in preparation of cases, files, and related documents. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Support in the preparation of client files, cases in litigations. Drafting and filing of pleadings for emergency services in accordance with the Victims of Criminal Act federal guidelines. Develop, update and maintain files on demographic information and other documents according to established guidelines. Provide liaison to clients or potential clients by providing intake, information, legal options, referral and follow-up service. (May accompany clients at trial hearings). Develop written informational materials for clients, explaining various processes that protect their rights. Provide advocacy to clients in civil court, municipal court, and criminal court, as assigned. Perform in-depth interviewing of clients and potential clients, as assigned. Serve as a liaison to WAA residential programs and various court units as assigned on behalf of WAA clients. Work collaboratively with the court to ensure protect of client rights. Facilitate client groups and ensure proper connection and reporting of related data. Complete and submit required reports and other written documents and oversee the work of students and volunteers as assigned. Will act as a WAA Legal Center Representative and participate in all required Legal Center, Team, WAA Staff and employee involvement meetings as assigned.

Qualifications:*
1. A Bachelor's Degree in human services or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
2. Some experience in legal services and/or advocacy is preferred with paralegal experience strongly preferred.
3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population is required.
4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member is required.
5. Demonstrated commitment to service of others is required.
6. Demonstrated proficiency in communication, both verbal and written, is required.
7. Demonstrated ability to plan projects and follow through completion is required.
8. Demonstrated ability to organize time and detail, including keeping of records, is required.
9. Some experience in working on domestic violence issues is strongly preferred.
10. Bilingualism is strongly preferred.
11. Will be required to attend JARS Domestic Violence Advocate Training, post hire.
12. Satisfactory child abuse, criminal and FBI clearances, required (expenses paid by Women Against Abuse)

Schedule:* FT, 40 hrs/week Monday-Friday
Pay Rate: $18.29/hour
