We are looking to add a Lab Technician to a long term, full-time consulting engagement on a customer site in Bloomington, MN.

This role will be responsible for setting-up and executing tests for quality audits and new product development at a well-known safety products manufacturer (smoke, fire, CO detectors, etc).

Specific Duties may include:

Fire room operation:

• Preparing wood/foam/food samples for testing.

o Drying/conditioning wood

o Cutting foam/wood to appropriate size

o Assembling other fuel sources

o Ensuring quantity of fuel is sufficient for upcoming tests

• Preparing smoke detectors for testing.

o Testing and inserting batteries

o Ensuring units are performing as expected

• Setting up detectors in smoke room
• Running fire room experiments according to instructions
• Ensuring that fire room data is within limit
• Documentation of lab procedures
• Experimental documentation (lab conditions, fires run, units tested, unit locations, etc.)

Clean room:

• Willingness to work in cleanroom and use cleanroom garments
• Place substrates in fixtures & mask them

o Requires a bit of dexterity and decent eyesight depending on the fixture/mask

• Run recipes on the Denton sputter system

o Can be simplified down to just hitting a few buttons in the right sequence

• Wire bonding

o Requires a lot of dexterity and good eyesight

• Eventually operate the probe station
• Annealing steps – placing substrates into a furnace
• Gassing steps
• Change N2 tanks
• Maintain a consumables inventory list
• General lab cleaning and upkeep

Gas lab:

• Willing to learn gas delivery systems and operate gas lab
• Report writing to capture test results and write clear test plans
• Change gas cylinders
• General lab cleaning and upkeep

General Duties

• Inventory

 Keep track of consumables

• Maintain a consumables inventory list (gas cylinders, etc.)’
• Diagnostics
• Root cause analysis on product failure
• Root cause analysis on fire room systems
• Running 3D Printer
• General cleaning/lab maintenance

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Desired Skills/Experience

• AS Degree in related field
• Soldering/de-soldering circuit boards
• Hands on experience in a mechanical or electrical lab setting (can be through school or internship)
• Experience with MS Office, especially Excel
• Troubleshooting/root cause analysis experience
• Read blueprints/schematics
• Willingness to learn and ask questions
• Basic hand tool experience

Nice to Have Experience

• Experience running tests in an R and D Environment
• Cleanroom experience
• Basic documentation skills
